We took out the bumpers from the crib except the main one that goes at the front of the crib. It has been fine since they were not very mobile...plus Carlie usually sleeps in her bouncer which is then placed in the crib. Well now that Claire is trying to roll over, she rotates. Last night (I think) when we had our middle of the night feed, I went in to get Claire after making her bottle and her face was completely pressed up against the bumper. Luckily, I heard her crying the entire time I was making the bottle, but I came out into the living room and told DH he had to take it off. I am not taking any chances.

I do want bumpers though I know you can get the breathable ones and they aren't that expensive. Has anyone used them and did you like them?

Also, she really likes to have a blanket on her, but I am worried that she will get herself caught up in that. Luckily she doesn't move around quietly and we always here her waking up and making noises and that is when she is moving around. She doesn't do it in her sleep. She is my noisy one thankfully.

I have a breathable bumper, they are really breathable and keep their heads from conking too hard.

Have you considered getting a sleep sack? It's like a blanket they wear.

We have the breathable bumpers, something like $25 each. We got them after my DH walked in to find Naomi basically hanging out of the crib through the slats (we didn't have any bumpers at that time). Supposedly they don't give them any leverage to climb on as they get older, we'll see.

As far as the blankets, we use the sleep sacks too, from Halo. I like them. I actually just saw adult sizes in a catalog from Plow and Hearth! :)

Breathable bumpers didn't fit our cribs. We really wanted to use them but they were too short because the 4 end posts on our cribs are really thick.

We also use the sleep sacks. We have several different ones but the Halos are my favorite by far. I almost always wash them so they can wear them again that night! Well at least Mia; B is still swaddled!

We got the breathable bumpers and they didn't fit our cribs. We now use nothing and while sometimes I got in there and there is a leg or arm out of the slats they've never gotten caught or been in a dangerous position.

And I second (third? fourth?) the suggestion of sleep sacks.

For the sleep sacks, do you still put on a sleeper underneath or just have that on them with a onsie?

It depends on how cold it is and if your baby tends to be a "hot" body or not. I would put the lighter pjs (not fleece or terry cloth) on them then the sleep sack, since the ones I had were fleece and pretty warm.

you can buy heavier weight ones and lighter cotton weight ones too.

I never put a bumper in until Emma turned 1 and I was trying to keep binkies in. I have the breathable one too and have found she loves to sleep against it now. Odd, huh? I do love the peace of mind though.

I always put my girls in the Halo Sleepsacks. I am actually selling mine from last winter if you are interested. HERE is the thread.

I still put pjs on them under the sleep sack. I hate being cold at night so I probably over dress them!
