    Hi Everyone,

I am bfing my 7 week (2 week adjusted) old twins, most of the time tandem, and ever since I weaned them from the nipple shields and started producing more milk as the shields are gone and their sucks are now much stronger - I've noticed this really achey feeling in both of my breasts after they complete a nursing session.

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this? It usually goes on for 5 or so mintues afterwards. I read in the What to Expect book that some women's breasts hurt as the milk glands begin producing more milk - could it be this? There are no red spots, no fever, no clogged ducts or anything - just a pretty painful ache all over both breasts.

    Thanks for any insight!

I would keep an eye on it. Depending on the type of pain (dull, sharp, etc) it could be full boobs, thrush or starting of clogs.
I would focus on keeping them pretty empty (possibly pumping after some feeds) for the time being.

    Thanks, Kristi.

It's a real general pain - not localized in any one area. I've had clogged ducts before with my son - and it definitely isn't that kind of pain. It is just kind of all over both breasts lasting about 5-10 minutes after almost every feeding. Of course, they're bfing approx. every 2 hours right now, so I have that achiness quite a bit right now. I did mention it at my 6 week PP appointment and she said it sounded normal. I just think its strange (and really uncomfortable) and I never remember having it with my son. Maybe b/c my breasts are producing 2x's as much milk as when I bf him?

Anyway, I will definitely keep my eye on it, just in case.

    Thanks again!

Heather, glad to know that someone else experienced this! That's exactly how I'd describe it, very achey.

    Thanks!
