I have read a little on how to tell if your breast shields for your pump are too small. I am still not sure. So I thought I'd buy some and see which work better. Anyone know what the standard size ones are (comes with breast pumps)? I don't want to buy the same size I already have  Also, where is the best place to buy them. Probably online because I don't ahve time to go hunting them down in a store. And lastly anyone know if the larger shields are longer? After I have been pumping for a while I swear my nipples are going to get sucked into the bottle. It scares me so much.

I believe the standard size is 24mm. If I needed some I would go to my pharmacy (where I've purchased tubing etc) I don't know if all pharmacies carry them, or not though.

I tried the 27mm (longer ones) and I was engorged in one day -- realized that hte 24's were the right size, so be conscious of this. LC's have these to sell as well.

My LC "fitted" me for mine and moved me up a size from the standard ones! You can order the larger ones online and medela.com has info on their website about how to fit them. HTH :)

I just got a large size at target. It made all the difference. Pumping used to be so painful, and I got nothing out. Now I'm able to pump a little everyday with no soreness and a fraction of the time. Good luck!

Has anyone tried the SoftFit™ Breastshields? I was just looking for the larger shields online and came across these. My let downs take 5 minutes when I pump so I wonder if this would help decrease that time.

I am not even sure I need the larger size. I just am trying to find options that can get more milk out and decrease my let down time. I'll try anything. I really want to avoid buying formula. With 4 very young kids I can not safely bf in public or I'd lose at least one kid. So I need to pump if I am going out of the house.

Have you tried to massage your breasts while pumping? That always sped things up for me as well as increasing volume. HTH :)

In addition to massage, try warm compresses - make a couple of washcloths or hand towels VERY hot (they cool quickly) and put them on your breasts; this often help more come out. Do you look at a pic of your babies when you pump? that might also help let down more quickly.
