    Hello!

I just thought I'd stop in and share with you guys my experiences with breast pumps... I sure wish I had found some better info before I rented!

I rented a hospital-grade Medela "Symphony"... it was supposed to be the latest & greatest breast pump available, and it seemed fine. Then, a close family member offered me her gently used Medela Pump In Style. Having found that I could barely pump with the Symphony, I decided to return the Symphony, save a few bucks, and use the PIS in case I needed to pump occasionally since my sons are really sensitive to formula and have to have it mixed w/ breast milk if I am away from them. Anyway, I used the PIS for the first time and got 4 ounces in under 5 minutes!!! I never got close to that with the Symphony. I was SOOO excited! It is such an awesome machine, and it's portable!

So, if you're planning to pump at all, I really highly recommend the Pump In Style! Best of luck to all of you. Pregnancy is not fun (at least mine wasn't) but it is so worth it! :hug99:

I was wondering WHEN I should buy a breast pump. I plan to breast feed but am worried about it not working out. So I don't want to purchase one and then not really use it. So I was thinking of renting one until I was sure that I was going to be breastfeeding for a while and then I would buy one. Thoughts?

I bought the pump in style before my twins were born. After they were born prematurely at 30 weeks thats all I could do was pump, around the clock! I didnt have a great supply to start with and I ended up renting one from the hospital b/c I was told it is more effective and will build my supply....wrong. I couldnt tell a difference other then the rented pump was a little easier on my breasts. They werent quite as tender or red after using the rented one. But as far as supply, I couldnt tell a difference between the two. Just my experience.

Wow! You have generous friends! I got onesies at my shower. I know it's not 'politically correct' but a friend of mine gave me her pump in style and I am SO excited for it and that I didn't have to spend a million billion dollars on it.

Thank you so much for this suggestion. I've been doing some research, and I had pretty much decided on getting the PIS, but it's always nice to hear personal experiences. Thanks!
