I registered for the Playtex manual breast pump. Since I wont be having to leave the baby for long, I dont really need an electric one (unless I can get a really great deal!) so I guessed that this would be fine! However, I am a crazy ebayer, and I am currently watching a Gerber manual pump (I believe it fits the playtex bottles as well...are there only two sizes of bottle mouths?) that is only like $1.99 plus shipping right now. I KNOW that is really cheap, but it is brand new, in the box, with 2 bottles. I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about this gerber pump. Gerber usually makes pretty good products, right? AGH! I know I shouldny even worry about this yet, but I saw this pump and really want to get it if it is an amazing deal!

OMG! I just went back and searched for new breast pump and there are like a thousand brand new ones for uber cheap! Does this mean I should just wait and see since there are clearly so many. ??? I am stumped.

Marissa, would you like me to move this post to the breastfeeding forum? I am sure they have lots of great advice on pumps.

I really think an electric pump is a "Must." You will be so tired that you will want things as easy as possible. You don't even have to buy one, I think all hospitals rent them.

I had a Gerber manual pump and it didn't work very well for me. I think I only used it a couple of times. One it didn't express much milk at a time so I had to pump a long time. Then it stopped suctioning altogether. I had many problems with it. Maybe you won't have the bad luck I did.
I also used an electric pump and it was way better. I would go with an electric even if you aren't going to use it all the time. It is faster, easier, and I felt it worked a lot better.

I agree with the previous posters..IMO, I'd go with an electric. I had to pump a lot the first few weeks, and I honestly couldn't imagine doing it with a manual pump. I have had both the Medela Pump In Style and the Ameda Purely Yours. Both worked great, the Ameda is a bit cheaper.

Having said that, I have heard that the Avent Isis is a good manual pump.

OMG!!! I cannot even tell you how frustrating this is! Not the breast pump thing...I have tried to reply to this post FOUR stinking times today, and it keeps messing up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHH! :aggressive: SO mad. Anyways...I am just going to wait and see. I think I will go with electric though, and I know I dont want gerber (several people have also mentioned that it sucks...or doesnt.) I dont need a pump right now. I just wanna buy stuff! AHH! :D Thanks for your input, ladies!

I agree with the previous comment that an electric pump is essential if you plan to breastfeed twins. (really, for anyone). If I didn't have my Medela Advanced Double pump, I would have quit nursing 4 months ago. For me, it has been the best investment so far! I personally feel that, if you are going to nurse twins, you need the best pump you can get, even if you aren't planning on going back to work. I stay home and I use mine all the time. There are definately areas to save money, but this is one where its important to get the best quality and save money in other areas. You coudl probably find a good deal on a Medela on EBAY too... see how much it costs for the Medela Advanced couble pump. Maybe you can find a deal online...
They say you aren't supposed to buy a used pump( for health reasons), but with the advanced you can just connect one of the kits they give you in the hospital and it works like a hospital-grade pump.

    Hope this helps:)
