Breakfast question

My girls have never been big eaters. They are on the small side too. They eat a good variety of stuff and I really don't have any issues with lunch and dinner. Breakfast on the other hand is a different story. They don't seem to like very many breakfast foods AT ALL. We've tried eggs, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cereal, and so much more! There are some foods they will eat, but nothing they LOVE. Up until very recently  they were still eating baby oatmeal mixed with fruit. So the things they will eat with out too much fuss include french toast waffle, fruit bar, toast, sausage, bacon, fruit, and occasionally a piece of cinnamon bread. They never eat very much of any of these things.

So my question is, what do your kiddos LOVE for breakfast and how much do they eat? Example, if they get waffles do they eat half, a whole one, or more? I know it's silly, but I was just wondering what kind of appetite other little ones wake up with.

We're in the opposite boat, breakfast is about the only meal my little ones eat very well. We do a lot of instant oatmeal; apple is a favorite. Also pancakes, scrambled eggs, raisin toast w/ cream cheese, bananas, cereal, bacon, french toast, fruit, milk, yogurt.......pretty much all that you listed.

If they're not eating breakfast well, maybe try bumping it back a little later to when they'll be more hungry? Also, do they drink anything before they eat? They might be filling up on that; we have to make sure milk is after meals.

I've been bumping back bfast lately. They don't even want to hear about food until at least 45 min after they get up. They don't get milk or anything until after bfast. They do have a couple sips of water when they wake up, but that's it. :umm:

This was pretty much exactly what I was going to say. Mine eat breakfast very well, but they have to be up a while before they sit down to eat. On daycare days we were sitting them down to breakfast right away, and they weren't eating much. So now we give them yogurt and milk, then send some fruit and cheerios or a bagel to daycare with them. On non-daycare days they eat a lot for breakfast, usually one pancake, waffle, or piece of toast each, a half a piece of fruit, 2 tubes each of gogurt, and 8 ounces of milk.

We have success with all the things listed but I do have one to add. My kids have found their favorite breakfast to be cheerios mixed into yogurt. They seem to love it! I hope you are able to find a few options that work!

Mine are the same age as yours.
We still do baby oatmeal, occasionally with some baby fruit mixed in for flavor. I think it is better for them than grown up instant flavored oatmeal - less sugar.

They also eat waffles, french toast, cinnamon toast. Usually one slice a piece, or one and a half slices apiece. They don't like eggs.

You know Lou, I really wouldn't really worry so much about it. Bfast around here is a hit and miss, especially with Arwen. Lorien is usually starving when she wakes up. Arwen on the other hand is like me. Not a big bfast person. She will generally eat a pretty good lunch and a great dinner and they have some snacks during the day so I'm not at all worried about it. Lorien, is a great bfast and lunch eater but dinner is a hit or miss with her. It may not be that they dont' necessarily like bfast foods but that they are just not big morning eaters. I am definately not a morning eater. I usually need to be awake for about 4 hours before I'm ready to really eat anything. Have you tried giving them those foods for lunch and see if it's really the food or if it's just the time of day that is making them turn it away? As long as they are eating well at other meals then it should be fine and I wouldn't worry. Is your ped worried about their weight? If not then don't you worry. Kids this young will eat when they are truly hungry and they also tend to slow down at times and not eat as much food at all. Do they still drink a lot of milk? If so, when do you give it to them? Maybe that's a factor? Hope you get the answers you are looking for.

A big hit here lately is yogurt with fruit, and then a little side cup of cereal, like grape nuts or some kind of flakes, that they can sprinkle in the yogurt themselves. They think that's big fun. They also love cereal and fruit with a little bit of milk. Bea is always all about breakfast, Ainsley, not so much. Sometimes I've noticed that she has to poop first, and then she will eat. TMI, sorry.

My two don't eat very good breakfasts, in how much they eat. They usually have to eat what big sister is eating before going to school. But mostly they will have toast, pancake or cereal (sometimes dry sometimes with milk). Sometimes they eat well and sometimes they don't. I've just stopped worrying about it since I know they eat well the rest of the day.

Mine love breakfast. they will eat waffles (1 each), pancakes (1-2 each), baby oatmeal mixed with applesauce, cheerios, french toast (1 slice each), or scrambled eggs with 1/2 piece toast. they will have a fruit or yogurt and milk with whatever they have for breakfast. When they wake up early, I give them milk and we have breakfast 45 minutes to an hour later. If they wake up at their normal time we have breakfast about a half hour after waking.

I've jsut started making my girlies smoothies in the morning. I throw fresh or frozen fruit (whatever wehave), milk and yogurt in the blender. I use those lettle cups you get at restaurants and put a straw in it. They suck that thing down!!! I usually add 1 waffle, pancake or french toast...whatever we have of those as well. We've been doing this deal now for about 2-3 weeks and they love smoothie day. Plus the bonus is that I make enough for me also. Then I get some breakfast too. We don't do it every day, at least 2-3 days a week though. Ont he other days...I am pretty much the same as other psotings.
Good luck..and also if your girls are growing fine..i wouldn't worry too much.

My boys don't care for breakfast either. We normally wait about an hour after they wake up and I also wait to give them milk until after they've had some food...but I can still barely get them to eat anything. I've never been much of a breakfast person myself, so that may be where they get it from.

On a good day (and those are rare) they'll share one waffle with butter on it, or one piece of buttered toast. They used to love oatmeal (they're 'off' of it right now for some reason) - I would make plain quick oats in the microwave, mix in frozen berries to cool it quickly, then add a container of fruit yogurt to sweeten it up a bit. I'd sprinkle a bit of wheat germ on top to make it even healthier - they call it 'yummy dust'. We also sprinkle wheat germ on cottage cheese and they'll occasionally eat that for breakfast.

Mine love breakfast. Right when they wake up they get 8oz's of milk in a sippy, which they normally drink 1/2 of right away and the rest over the next hr or so. I also give them frozen waffles w/butter to eat at the counter while I cut up all the fruit and get their cereal ready.
So on an average day they get 8oz's of milk, 1 waffle each, 1 cup of fresh fruit each, and 1/4 cup of dry cereal. Every other day of so, like today, they also each ate a link of sausage.

Dinner is the least likely to be eaten here.

My boys are enormous eaters - they pretty much eat like grown men. A typical breakfast includes 2 eggs, 1-2 pieces of toast, a banana, a piece of sausage and some dry cereal - PER CHILD. Some of our big hits include: french toast, scrambled or hard boiled eggs, veggie or meat omelets, toast, waffles, pancakes with blueberries or chocolate chips, sausage, hashbrowns, eggs/hashbrown/sausage mix, and fresh fruit (especially bananas). I sometimes put soynut butter (peanut butter alternative) on the waffles or toast to sneak in more protein. Also, fried eggs go over big - especially if I leave a little yolk so they can dip their toast into it like Daddy does.

our boys eat yogurt, cheerios or cookie crisps with milk - with me or with daddy cheese (philadelpia, goat cheese, etc ) and bread. now is no1 "tzatziki" on a slice of whole grain bread.

I have a couple of skinnies so I understand the worry over their eating. We go through phases where they eat like hogs at breakfast alternating with phases where they eat very little. It can be soooo frustrating to cook a pan of eggs and have them take only a couple of bites. There aren't any foods they dislike but they have preferences that change with the breeze so I usually ask what they want and give a couple of options (no more than 3 or they can't decide). I try to get them to have carbs, protein, and a veggie and/or fruit at every meal but it doesn't always work out that way. Their diet if you look at the whole day or a week is very good and that's what really matters, not how much or what they eat at one sitting.

Thanks ladies! I'm going to try a few new things posted here. And I feel better about not getting too much in the morning. They eat really well through out the day so there's comfort in that. Any other 'different' ;) suggestions out there post them!

Mine will eat 2-3 eggs (each) or about 1/2 cup (cooked) of oatmeal or cream of wheat, plus maybe 1/2 cup of fruit (Amy eats more) or yogurt (Sarah eats more). And when we have eggs, they usually also each eat half an English muffin.

Breakfast is actually their most reliable meal. But you know, you don't have to feed them breakfast foods for breakfast.... :)

Breakfast is our best meal of the day. I make big batches of the "super baby pancakes" from the wholesomebabyfood.com website and I freeze them to pop in the toaster as needed. I also give them Shreddies (soaked in milk for a minute first) and that's a new hit around here. I always give fresh fruit at breakfast too - grapes, berries, banana, etc. Sometimes they have yogurt and/or apple sauce.
