Just curious on what kinds of bread or breads you give your kids. What did you start out with? I'm wondering if I can give them raisin bread yet? TIA

We mostly do wheat bread here. I have tried giving them raisin bread, but they picked the raisins out. They will eat plain raisins, but they didn't like it in the bread. I have also tried baking homemade breads for snacks, but they weren't big fans of that either.

I make their grilled cheese with whole wheat/whole grain bread. I give them cinnamon swirl toast (haven't tried raisins yet, but I'm not a big raisin fan). I've also given them baked sweet breads on occasion (banana, lemon, etc.) They love garlic bread too.

Are you worried about the raisins being a choking hazard? They're usually quite soft in a raisin bread. I think I gave mine cinnamon raisin bagels around 12 months and they did fine with it.

As for starting breads, we started with pancakes. I make them using whole wheat flour and mashed banana, blueberries, pumpkin puree, or shredded carrot/apple/zucchini and complimentary spices. Anything but plain is our motto ;) They also would get bites of dinner rolls, biscuits, and corn bread. Around 11 months, we graduated to a basic whole wheat or multigrain sandwich bread and tried grilled cheese which was a hit. I cut the crusts off up until they got their molars. They eat the same as we do now including all of my crazy homemade bread recipes.

Oh, and we still enjoy those pancakes!

My guys are picky, the only bread they like is white toasted bread with butter (well fake butter), or banana bread ;)

Mine LOVE any kind of flavored bread..banana, zuchinni, pumpkin, etc.

On a day to day basis, they eat the Wonder White Whole Wheat bread. That's what Dh and I eat, so they have it too. I don't think raisins would be too much of a problem for you right now. Like pp said, they are really soft and moist in breads...not like just out of the can where they are kind of chewy.

I think mine started getting raisin bread at daycare at 10 months. They did fine with it, so I started giving it to them too. But they do go through phases where they pick out all the raisins.

Mine are not very excited by plain bread (who would be?) but they love all kinds of muffins and banana bread, pumpkin bread, etc. The only concern is that if I buy them from a bakery/cafe, I have to make sure they don't have nuts. I try to bake them myself, which is also much cheaper.

They also eat pancakes and waffles -- mostly frozen waffles, which are a breakfast staple, but they've eaten pancakes the few times that they've had them.

I haven't had any luck getting them to eat sandwiches so far.

I think the very first bread I gave them were some bread sticks that they could gum.
I second that the raisins in raisin bread are usually pretty soft--but my girls also pick them out!
We do lots of whole grain breads that I make in our bread machine. So far, they haven't met a bread they didn't like. (I've never given them plain white bread because I can't stand it myself, I don't see any point in it.)

I give them any bread, as long as it's whole grain. They love cinnamon raisin swirl bread. Pepperidge Farm makes a whole grain one. They also love chewing on a whole wheat mini bagel.

[SIZE=12pt]Whole wheat bread here. It's funny because they hate white bread because they never had it!

Mine also love other yummy breads like banana, pumpkin, blueberry, zucchini, etc...

Mine like all kinds of bread but nothing on it (no icing, no butter, no jam)

Mine like just about any bread. Right now they are big on Rye & Pumpernickel swirl bread. I've given them cinnamon raisin bread with a light spread of cream cheese as a snack or with breakfast and they really like it. They also like pancakes and waffles plain with no syrup or anything.

    Milton's 100% Whole Wheat Bread

They are not huge bread eaters, but that is what they get since that is what DH and I like to eat.

Yep, whole wheat here too. At that age that's all we gave them -- whole wheat with cream cheese I think every day. They love bread and I think would live on it alone (which we all now "man cannot...") if I'd let them.

Now they eat bagels, crusty Italian breads, any homemade quick breads, tortilla wraps, pretty much anything.
