For me - BH feels like a tighing of my whole belly (kind of feels like how your stomach feels when you eat too much -- just stretched a tight) I usually feel it most in my lower belly -- but if I lay down, I can feel that my whole belly is rock hard. For me (and I am NOT the norm) they tend not to feel so much like "contractions" tighting and loosing -- but its like my belly just gets hard from between 10-30 min. without a break. HTH!

Ok, lay on your side & feel your belly. If it feels like your cheek - soft & "smushy", then you are not having a contraction. If your belly feels like your forehead, then you are having a contraction.
    HTH,

This is interesting I thought a contraction was when your belly hardened and then relaxed within a matter of a minute or two.

I have absolutely had the sensation where my belly is hard and it lasts for 10-30 minutes just like the pp stated and often goes away when I lay down or relax etc... but I didn't think that was BH contrax's b/c it was constant and didn't come and go like I though a contraction did.

So does that mean that anytime your belly gets rock hard even if it stays that way for awhile that your contracting??

I think that that could be the positions of the babies...i know when mine move around certain areas of my belly will get pretty hard and tight...when i put my hand there i am sure it is either a bum or a head :)

As for BH...for me i can feel my lower belly tighten and then relax...there is no consistency at all :)

For me - it goes like this:

    - first I feel a very strong and sudden urge to pee - really bad
    - then I notice my heart pounding / racing
    - I find it hard to breathe - like I can't catch my breath
    - my belly tightens - like really, really hard. It's very strange. It's more pronounced down low, that's where I actually feel it tighten. but if I push on the belly I will find that it's hard all over.
    - it usually lasts for about 30 seconds.

I've been getting maybe 3 - 6 of these per day. Usually it's just towards the end of the day - and I take it as a definite sign that my body is telling me it's time to call it a day and get off my feet. Occasionally I'll get one or two earlier in the day as well. I think I was having these for a few weeks before I really figured out the pattern and realized what they were.

Push on your belly when you're not having one - and get to know what that feels like - you probably can squish it quite a bit. But when you are having one it is just rock hard. Like a very firmly inflated ball.

thanks everyone! okay, so then i AM having them. my whole stomach feels stretchy and tight adn really really full and i have a hard time walking. like yesterday. i ate lunch at 2:30, went to my swim class at 6pm and still felt SO full and tight i just thought, "jeez, i didn't think i ate THAT much..."
mine is constant, for like 30-45 minutes, sometimes an hour.

okay, so when you get them, are you supposed to sit down adn put your feet up right away? or can you just keep going with what you're doing? AAAND... does anyone know what causes them?

thanks again, i got a lot of great feedback!
