I am already starting to have a lot of braxton hicks contractions and I am only 13 weeks. I don't think I've ever had them before the end of the second trimester before. Is this normal, or should I be worried? They aren't regular or anything. I've also been having mild menstral like cramps off and on too.

I started having BH contractions very early with my girls as well. I had an irritable uterus and had to drink TONS of water. My twin pregnany taught me a lot about being pregnant- things were just different than with any of my 3 singletons! You should call your doctor just to be on the safe side! That is always the best thing to do!!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! twins are so neat!!!

i started having mine somewhere in the 8th month with my singletons and with this pregnancy g/g di/di twins i started getting mine around 12 weeks. and still get them every single day! i already drink alot of water pregnant or not pregnant but if i start getting them really bad consistantly i always grab my old hospital mug or the biggest glass i can find and drink about 4 glasses of water and lay down....they go away! :D sometimes they dont but i am also 26 weeks now and in PTL which is the result of the contractions for me! if you are worried that much, call the dr. and ask them what their policy is. i know my dr. says if i have more than 4 in an hour that i have to go in immediatly!!!!!!!!! Good luck and CONGRATS! :p

    Thanks for your replies!

I called my doc and he had me come in to test my urine for infections, and did a quick ultrasound. He said the babies and my cervix look great! I feel a lot better now. He said BH contractions are not normal this early and to let him know if they get regular, or really frequent. He said the medicine to stop them isn't FDA approved for under 20 weeks. He also told me that my cramping is probably just because I am growing bigger, faster with twins, and that I'll probably just have a lot more aches and pains with this pregnancy.

I have had BH contractions since 11 weeks with this pregnancy, but only about 3-5 per day at that stage and then they gradually increased over time. Actually, I think I get less than that now and I'm still cooking at 36.5 wks (or maybe I'm just so used to them I don't feel them as much!)!
