The kids have finally been bit by the music bug. I've been pushing it for a long time, but Guitar Hero put them over the top. Now they spend their gift/chore money on CDs and spend a lot of time listening.

Anyway, I found these lyrics, written by Brady, crumped up in the garbage can by my computer this morning. (I added the parentheses to make it a little clearer):

I went out bed and looked at the sun
I did't no wut was going on
    (Repet)
    (Singing)
I love my mom and my dad
    (Gitar slo)
    It's the love yay!
    It's the love
It's the love oh yay yay!

I asked him if he wrote them, and he said yes. I said, "Did you write down a song you heard on one of your CDs, or did you make this up?" He said he made it up on his own! Not bad for a barely 6 year old! He seemed a bit embarrassed and wanted me to put them back in the garbage. I let him throw them away again, but then I dug them out and will keep them. ;)

Amy, that's the cutest thing ever! He may have a real talent like his Mama, wouldn't that be fantastic!?

So I should get Guitar Hero for Berkey, huh?

Awwww, that's adorable, Amy! Who knows.... those lyrics may be famous someday. :D

Kyle has been telling me he wants to take singing lessons (he says he wants to be a rock star, when he grows up); I need to get with it and sign him up.

Oh, BTW - K&K still love those two CD's you burned for them a couple of years ago. They were listening to one tonight, when they went to bed.

Definitely! I ask my kids constantly if they want to take music lessons. I've offered piano, guitar, anything, but so far no takers. Jackson is getting very interested in DH's old drum set, which is in storage under our basement stairs. I said we can't get that out until we get rid of all the toys in the basement playroom, because there just isn't enough space. Jackson's ready to toss all the toys right now! Hayden and Brady aren't quite as ready, though. :)

By the way, Cathy, your new avatar photo is fantastic!!! What a gorgeous portrait of them all. Your kids just keep getting cuter/more handsome all the time!

I just heard on the radio that John Lennon's handwritten lyrics to "Give Peace a Chance" were sold at auction for the equivalent of about 800 thousand American dollars. I'm betting that you wouldn't let Brady's song go for 10 times that amount. What a treasure!!

    (Edited to add song title)

What a cool thread and lyrics. I'm sending this to my wife as inspiration for us getting Guitar Hero too!

Wouldn't it be a nicer planet if more rock and roll songs (or any kind of songs for that matter) had more lines in there like "I love my mom and dad"?

    :D

Here's a fun spinoff: I took the boys to a local festival last weekend to see a band called Hairbangers Ball. They do only '80s hair metal (Poison, Van Halen, Scorpions, Bon Jovi), and some of them wear wigs and costumes to fit the part. They capture the sound of each song really accurately, and they're talented and fun to watch, even if it isn't my favorite music. My boys stood at the front of the stage with me for 90 minutes and were enthralled! They knew most of the songs because of Guitar Hero '80s, and it really was like Guitar Hero come to life. The guys had the look and the right guitars. Hayden actually said, "Hey, mom, that guy has a '59 Gibson Les Paul!" It did look just like one, but I assured him it was a lookalike, and if it were a real '59 Gibson, it would probably be home under lock and key.

Amy, how cute is that? Keep them interested. As you well know, music is a great creative outlet. ;)

You know, B&C have been taking drum and guitar lessons for a few years now and they have their own band, Elements of Rock. They wrote an original song for their 5th grade party and performed it for the kids! Craig has been writing lyrics for a long time and Brian loves to write guitar solos. Even if they never do anything with it more than play for their own enjoyment, music is a great thing for them! (BTW, Sean plays percussion, Brian also plays trumpet, and Craig has been teaching himself guitar when Brian will let him play!) They are really into their music and I couldn't be happier.

And on the Guitar Hero thing, Craig, Amanda, buy it! It is so much fun. Y'all probably have not been following my progress with Guitar Hero Aerosmith, but I beat the game (ok, well only on easy  ) but it is so much fun. I'm now on medium and sailing along! Very addictive but very fun. There is a new RockBand II coming out and also a Guitar Hero IV and those are going to be fun also. My kids have every version of GH and Rockband and it's just so darn fun. Do it!!!!

Keep up the great work, Brady!!!!!
