I said I wasn't going to do it.. But now that Canada has banned BPA.. I had to.

I tossed my Dr. Brown's and bought the 'Parents Choice" BPA free ones from Walmart. They were 2.97 for three so.. not too bad AND I can still use my Dr. Brown's nipples. I feel good about it even if they have already used them for 7 months.. UGH. What is going to happen??

What do you guys think?? I sooo thought I wasn't getting on this "train" but I have realized that it probably is quite serious afterall...

It isn't too late is it? Now that we've used them for 7 mos?? I mean, it's worth it to prevent FURTHER damage right??

    Just freaking out.

Mine used Avent for the whole first 18 months of their lives so I'm not real happy about it either. But, while I feel bad about using bottles with BPA in them, I realize that we can only do what we can with the information we have & we didn't know there was a problem. So, I have thrown them all out, switched to BPA free bottles/sippies because, I'm with you, I can't keep giving them those bottles now that I know there could be a problem (it hasn't actually been proven in humans). That is all I can do, now I'm just going to try to let it go because we could worry ourselves sick over all these little things in life!

Don't freak out... you can only do what you can do, you know?

To answer your original question, yes, we switched bottles about eight months ago when the first BPA reports came out. We also bought BPA-free sippy cups.

I'm sure there are a million other chemicals we'll all learn about in two years...

No, we did not switch. Our beebs will be on bottles for less than 3 more months, I am guessing. We only warm them a little bit, they are not heated to extreme temperatures and I feel relatively safe. My husband has his doctorate in chemical engineering and studied BPA at great length and he is comfortable with us using the Avent bottles.

I was going to add that the information I have seen, someone correct me if I'm wrong, seems to indicate that the longer the liquid is in the bottle the more likely you are to have the BPA leaching into it. Since usually with baby bottles, you put the liquid in & feed it to them immediately, you are less likely to have a problem than if you left it sitting in there a long time, like with some water bottles.

I made the switch this weekend. I bought Dr. Browns BPA free bottle. I'm happy they charged the same price as the other bottles. I'm not freaking out because there is nothing I can do about the last 6 months. If you still need the Dr. Browns for your kids, they just came out with the BPA free.

We're trying to switch, but we're not there yet. We're moving one from Dr. Browns to Playtex but we only have half of the nipples we'll need and I need to dig the rest of the bottles out of the closet, so we're not totally switched yet.

The other though, cannot latch onto anything except Dr. Browns. And we have tried them ALL, and just tried Playtex again on him. No go. So the Dr. Brown's fit the Parent's Choice? What about the other parts? The Dr. Brown's system really helps his gas too, but I don't want to spend all that money on the new Dr. Browns ...

I'm still not sure how worried to be about it - other (natural) substances have estrogen-like effects too, and no one is all upset about those. We don't heat the bottles or use the dishwasher. So I'm not going to freak and toss everything. If I can't get the Dr. Browns system to work in a different bottle, then we won't switch - I just also won't buy anything new with BPA in it.

We have 3 Dr. Brown bottles and a whole bag of Avent bottles. However-we don't use those. DH doesn't like them. We use Gerber Clearview which are BPA free. I know the Dr. Brown nipples fit on the Gerber Clearview bottles. We saw the pedi today and he said we need to be careful of what comes from China essentially because we just don't know. And he said if it were him-he would get rid of the bottles.

    HOLY MoLEY.

I think that the whole straw part of the Dr. Brown's carries BPA. And no it does not fit into any other bottles. The nipples do PERFECTLY tho in the Parent's Choice. So far, so good. The boys like them just fine. And no gas issues yet.. (pray.)

I was soooo not into this whole "worry like crazy over nothing" deal.. BUT.. I cannot, knowing what I do know, give them the bottles any longer. It kind of bugs me to spend the money but whatever.

    Hi Everyone,
I am so put off by the recent infor. coming out about BPA in bottles. I've been using Avent bottles since the babies were born, putting a little boiled water in to warm the bottle (and speeding up any leaching of the chemical). I also noticed that Gerber puts its food in plastic boxes with the number 7 recycled code on the bottom--this is one of the codes you are supposed to avoid, according to the articles I have read. I find this so annoying, as there seems to be, with some regularity, things that pop up about safety concerning what we give our infants. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? I recently bought Born Free bottles, which are BPA-free at the kids' 8 month mark. I just can't give my boys something that MAY be harmful, if I know about it.
