Has anyone switched bottles over all the talk about BPA? You know, when I had the twins almost 3 years ago, I had NEVER heard of this...now, the news almost makes you feel like a horrible parent if you aren't switching bottles.

When I was working at BRU part-time, there were people coming in stocking up on the glass bottles. I thought, "That's so dumb to lug those things around, they are heavy!" I didn't truly understand about BPA and the dangers they say can accompany it with infants/toddlers.

Are there any plastic bottles out there now that are BPA free? Or is the only alternative a glass bottle?
EDT: I forgot about the Born Free plastic bottles. They had just come out with those at BRU a few months before I quit...PRICEY!

Has anyone actaully switched bottles because of this?

I actually just switched this weekend to the Born Free plastic bottles. The only reason I did was because my husband actually mentioned something about them and I read about it so we figured we would rather be safe than sorry. I bought 4 bottles to start with and it was about $40. Pretty pricy but we only bought 6, enough to get us through 1 day. My little ones didn't seem to have any problem switching over except for alittle bit more messy when eating. Overall I see no difference but like I said we would just rather be safe than sorry. :D

BPA was starting to make news when my girls were born so I just started out with Playtex Drop-Ins to avoid it.

I'm still trying to figure out if they are safe if not heated. I do room-temp bottles now and just run it under hot water for a sec. Dr. Browns is coming out with BPA free May 1st. I may switch to that if I find it is still unsafe if not heated. I tried using the drop ins but my babies still have gas issues.

I am using Avent right now...but I went online to research if the drop-in's were ok. I was originailly going to use those, but had some Avent free ones (never opened) I got when the girls were born, but they never took to them. So, I used them with Olivia. I am going to BRU today, might get a few of the Platex Drop-ins to see if she will take them...that seems to be the cheapest alternative at this point.

We just switched sippies yesterday because of the BPA. This site has a list of bottles/pacis/teethers/sippies, that are BPA free.

I'm going to switch to the Dr. Brown's version as soon as it comes out on May 1st. I hate the glass ones and my girls didn't like any of the others that I tried (Born Free, etc).

yes, we threw out all of our bottles and switched to Born Free and the MAM bottles that are BPA free. We also figured, better safe then sorry! I would feel SO guilty down the road if something happend because they were using bottles that harmed them....so I'd rather just spend the extra $$$ and have some piece of mind.

My original plan was to use Born Free bottles, but they don't work for my girls. I'm sad because Dr. Brown's nipples do NOT work for Maya. They are way too fast. We are using Playtex Ventaire, but I'm going to try those nipples w/ Dr. Brown's bottles. If they fit we will be able to switch to the BPA free ones!

Same here!! On Saturday we switched to the Walmart brand. They are very cheap, 3 for $2.97. They come with slow flow nipples and a 6 pack of fast flow nipples are $2.97.

Wish I bought these in the first place. I did everything they tell you to do with the Avent bottles, but they would still leak. I've had no problems with the Parent's Choice bottles.

Not switching.. Never even thought twice about it.. I see this as another SCARE TACTIC to freak people out, cause a scare and a run on BPA Free bottles. These bottles WITH BPA have been around for a long time. Watch, in 20 yrs there's going to be a problem w/ the bottles w/o BPA!! It's another one of those "things" that could potentially go on FOREVER... People need to decide for themselves FOR SURE..

I am just not one of those people that believes everything I read. IF I DID-- I'd be 1. Crazy (crazier LOL) 2. BROKE and 3. Scared to wake up every day to turn on the news or read the internet cuz I'd have to REarrange my life EVERY SINGLE DAY!!

I have 6 month old twins- I use Dr. Brown's With BPA.. dun, da, dun... Never batted an eye.

We just switched. We purchased the born free bottles very pricey but I figured as well to be safe. Ds has no problem with them but dd will drink about 2 oz. then refuses anymore. I don't know if it is related or just a phase. She just started solids as well and thinks she is a big girl now she also loves the sippy cup and drinking from a glass. I have put her back on the avent bottle and will have to re introduce the new bottles gradually I guess. Anyone have ideas on the best way to do this?

we use drop ins and to be honest i really have no idea what the cause for concern is? I choose not to read into it much either. I mean why are they harmful?

For the next baby, I'll use BPA-free bottles. FYI, you don't HAVE to use expensive Born Free bottles, everyone seems to think those are the only safe ones. Like a PP mentioned, the Parents Choice bottles are good, also the Gerber Clearview or Pastel bottles (I'll probably use those). I use Gerber Sip N Smile cups with the girls now, and I've gotten a couple comments because they aren't the hip Siggs or Kleen Kanteens, but they are BPA-free.

Ive been using Avent bottles. But I mostly breastfeed so I don't know if I'll swtich. I will have to buy bigger bottles as I only have the 4 ounce size. I tried to look it up but are the avent drop in ones BPA free? I do haev a couple of big ones of those. Is washing out the drop in part and reusing it ok? I hate to waste and dispose of them every time.

I was so worried about this at first and tried to find different bottles that I could afford AND were BPA free AND that the babies would take. I tried Nuby. I tried Gerber. And the kids just hated them. So I'm back to using Avent. They really take to those bottles the best. They have a lot less gas and they like the nipples. So I'm using them. I don't run them in the dishwasher- just warm soapy water. And I've always just used room temp water, so they really are not heated.

I can't afford to spend $50+ on just 3 or 4 bottles like the Born Free. I makes me mad that those alternatives are so freaking expensive. And there was no way I was going to drop the money and then learn that kids wouldn't take them.

I do not plan on switching either. I make their bottles fresh....even when out and about. We will put water in a thermo to keep it warm. I do not freeze or microwave either. Like PP mentioned, they will then find something wrong with the new bottles, and so on. Plus, I don't have the money to replace 12 Dr. Brown bottles either and the new ones will be pricey. They have been on these bottles for over 7 months too.

Just to let you know, in case you did not try them, the gerber gentle flow bottles fit the advent nipples. I could only find them at Walgreens but DD never had any problems with the switch. They are shaped just like advent and are cheap.

We just switched this weekend...better safe than sorry was our take (we also switched the water bottles that DH and I use, along with some other plastic items we use). We are using the Gerber Gentle Flow...they are pratically identical to our Avent bottles (even use the same nipple/collar) but they just so happen to be bpa free :)

I just ordered some of the Gerber GentleFlow, so that I could continue to use all my Avent nipples/rings and not have to try to switch my babies to different nipples.
