I'm stuck. I need some ideas for a group of about 10-12 boys to do at an at home bday party in January. If it was warm outside, Timothy really just wants a soccer/basketball party where they could run around and play outside. But it's Kansas. There's a small to slim chance of 50's, but not very likely.

So what can we do inside? His party is just the boys from his class. So, probably 10-12 first grade boys. The closest I've come to an idea is a set of foam stickers to make pirate stuff. We do have quite a bit of room inside the house. The playroom is actually a double room that nobody put a wall up in so we could do things like balloon relay races or something like that. I just need some creative help.

    Thanks,

    Marissa

My 2 boys turn 7 two days before your twins. We are also doing a home party again this year. This year we are having Mad Science come do a show as the main activity, so that may not be much help. However last year we just had kids over to our house (I think about 15). My 2 are really into sports, so it was kind of sport themed. I had different activities set-up for the kids to do around the house and the backyard (started to rain towards the second half so the outside activties were limited). For inside the house:

[*]I had a toss across game in one area
[*]pin the tail on the donkey type game where the kids placed a football sticker on a football field
[*]I taped hockey cards to the back of the door and let the kids shoot the nerf gun at the cards (I or another adult was also there to supervise). This was a big hit with the kids.
[*]I had chairs for musical chairs, but we never got that far.
    [*]Pinata (done in the garage)

As for outside, we borrowed a jumpy house from a friend, but we also had bowling pins (we had an old set of bowling pins from the local bowling alley) and the kids knocked down with a basketball (for the most part my mom would set the bowling pins up and each kid got 2 chances). The basketball bowling was a huge hit and is still talked about. You could set up something similar inside.

You could also set-up a miniature golf course.

    Good luck and have fun!

For their 6th birthday, we had a pirate theme. We did pirate balloon guys and sword fights (although quite a few fingers got hacked). The big activity was a treasure chest. We used photo clues, but since they can read, you could do written clues or a treasure map. In an ideal world, they'd have to dig for the treasure, but I guess that's unlikely in Kansas in January.

Thanks. Once I read these posts, it didn't seem so hard to be creative anymore.

I think I'm going to get 2 of the Nerf indoor basketball hoops with foam balls for having a basketball shooting contest. Timothy has wanted those anyway so he can shoot baskets in his room. We'll put out tape lines on the carpet with pts on them and let the boys have 5 shots for the most points for a game. We can do that a couple of times.

Then while the boys are eating cupcakes upstairs, I'll have dh add stuff to the playroom. We'll leave the basketball hoops on the walls. Timothy has indoor bowling sets so we can set up a mini, 2 lane bowling alley. And then we can bring Timothy's nerf guns down and set up a shooting range. If we plan carefully, all 3 things can go on at the same time down in the basement room and the boys can play.

Thanks for the ideas. I went and got stuff for the goody bags today. All that is left is for Timothy to approve everything.

Just an FYI on the Nerf basketball hoops, my BIL got my boys the Nerf basketball hoop that hangs on a door that lights up, and the ball has some hard plastic like thing the is in it (I think it glows in the dark). When my boys were playing with it once, 1 of them hit the other one in the mouth with the ball and the hard part on the ball chipped his tooth (it was a little chip, but he was complaining about his mouth hurting).

    The basketball sounds fun!

My boys went to a birthday party where the parents were handing out homemade "tickets" for completing each game. At the end of the party, each child could use his tickets to "purchase" little toys and candy. I thought it was a creative alternative to the goody bag.
