boys and potty training

Okay, so my boys are approaching 3. We have been doing potty training for awhile now, and they are doing pretty good overall. I would say they each have a full blown accident a couple of times a week, usually when they are distracted and don't realize they need to go.

The major problem we are having is that they will leak in their underwear, just a little bit, before they go sit on the potty. Usually it's not enough to even get their pants wet, but the underwear has to be changed. I just did laundry from the last two days and there were 16 pairs of underwear in there!! :faint:

My mom says it's "normal" and they will grow out it in time, but I'm tired of doing laundry!! Is there anyway I can work on this, or do I just deal with it?? I try to have them sit on the potty if I know they haven't gone in a hour or so, but it still happens.

I thought about rewarding them (sticker, m and m, etc.) for any time they go on the potty and their underwear isn't wet, but if they really can't control it, that won't matter and will probably only stress them and me out.

I just wish I could wave a wand and have this potty training stuff be over.

(edited for typo - it's been a long day)

    Potty training sucks. Period.

In answer to your question, my littlest man is a little over 3.5, and he still dribbles, constantly. We're so used to it that he just goes and changes his underwear himself, and gets clean ones on! I truly feel it's a developmental thing with him. He's also consistently soaking wet every morning, nowhere near being ready to night train yet. Some days he does okay, but most of the time he's wetting just a little bit. And he still will soak himself if he's totally distracted (like we're playing outside for the afternoon).

I got no real help or answers for you, but I can commiserate with you! ;)

My one son did this (the wet spot would be about the size of a quarter) and while he hasn't completely grown out of it, it happens much less often now. He is a little over 3.5 years old. Nothing I did helped resolve the problem, only time! I just kept reminding him not to wet in his pants when it happened. He also gets his own underpants when he feels wet. Luckily, it was just one twin for me so the laundry wasn't TOO bad!!! I feel for you!

I know it sounds strange, but you could put a panty liner inside their underwear to catch any leaks. You could probably get away with cutting one in half. Much easier than having to change underwear.

I did this for my one DS who had issues with skid marks. :bad:

Interesting idea! I am so sick of skidmarks when they come home from daycare. The teachers will help them some, but they do a less than thorough job. And for the life of me I can't figure out why they even make white and light colored underwear for toddlers!

My 2.5 year old son also does this. You might want to buy lightly padded undies. They are so soft and just a little roomier, I actually like them better than regular toddler undies. But they don't come in character prints, which my twins LOVE.

Thanks for the ideas.....sounds like we just have to deal with it until they mature a bit. :)
