I'm new to this boy stuff. Could someone advise me re: the order of operations when diapering to avoid getting sprayed when diapering my boy? any helpful tips/tricks?

    Just be quick! ;)

Fortunately, this gets way better at about 6-7 months (or maybe earlier). I can't remember the last time I got sprayed. Now that I say that, you know tomorrow ds will get me!

We keep a baby washcloth handy and put it over. They also sell "peepee teepees".

LOL, Ive been caught off guard a few times too! I remove the dirty nappy and put the clean one straight on him without sealing it. Whilst I wipe him and cream him up I have the front of the nappy covering his willy just incase! He´s quite good and hasn´t sprayed me that much! LOL!

I used to throw the wipe over it...the peepee teepees are an expensive waste of money!

I've never really figured it out, considering I have to lift his butt to clean him and usually if I put a diaper on the front, it falls. I used a wipe for a while, but he hasn't peed like this in a long time. Of course I've had to change his clothes and the bed sheets quite a few times, lol, but we usually change them on waterproof pads so it's not too bad.

Our boy, thankfully has not sprayed us too much. We did use a peepee tepee when he was first born and that reduced the number of accidents. Now, I will just put a wipe over his stuff and that, so far, has helped. Of course, he is starting to take the wipe off...so we do try to change him fast!

I had grabbed a bunch of the chuk pads from the hospital to change them on and I used a folded up cloth diaper to cover. That way if he peed it would hit the cloth diaper and what didn't get absorbed soaked into the pad underneath. Then I'd scooch him to a dry spot, wipe him down and put on the clean diaper. As others said, it gets better! Just do the best you can to contain the mess and know that this too will pass!

when my boys were infants, I just put a baby wipe over it or a baby washcloth - and I was just quick!

Ditto to the wash cloth ... it's more absorbent than a wipe, so I think it did the job better. Those peepee teepees are a total waste of money, IMO. The thing never stayed put. So we never used it. Although Hailey will see it every now and then and say "Shoe?"

I use a wipe but disposable nursing pads work as well. I used them at the beginning, since I was given a box for my shower. They are pricey otherwise.

I also always put the clean diaper under them before changing. My DH doesn't and he has had many an accident <_<

i put the clean diaper under the dirty diaper and do a quick swap. then i fold the front of the clean diaper up over him while i'm tossing out the dirty one and getting things like wipes and cream. if he pees at that point it's no big deal, it's just one more diaper down the drain. i've also found that if you move quickly and keep him moving he won't have an opportunity to relax and hose you down. your riskiest moment is the moment you let him relax while exposed on the changing table. something about that cool breeze, i suppose...

I used a burpcloth and changed quickly. Don't worry, you will get the hang of it!

Honestly, my son is 26 months and this NEVER happened to me. I obviously don't have any advice to share. :)

    Wear a raincoat...

    No, seriously:
I lift and replace (laying the loose diaper over the bits) then while I undo the flaps on the new one I let him get it out. Sometimes it's the cold air that makes it fly. I swap out the old for the new very quickly.
    Good luck.
Just about every Mom gets caught at least once though. Don't feel bad.

After getting sprayed many times, I now put a baby wipe over it until I can cover everything with the papmper. Every now and then I get caught off guard.
