I was boiling them each time but our water is hard (we live in an apartment) and then I was using the dishwasher and saw an article that it is not good becuase it breaks down the plastic. So what do you do?

Whenever we use bottles, we just put them in the dishwasher. Agree with pp, if you're worried about plastics, you could try Born Free.

I use hot water and soap and once a week use my medula steam bag (for breastpump bottles).

Dishwasher top rack. And the nipples and rings go in a basket (made by Munchkin I think- bought at Target) on the top rack too.

The problem with the plastics relates to heating the bottles, so boiling has the same effect as a dishwasher. If you are worried, I would do Born Free.

We used a sterilizer for the first 6 weeks and now we are all about the dishwasher!

I hate putting them in the dishwasher not only because of the plastic breaking down, but also because they always seem to have a greasy film on them when they come out. I just use a bottle brush with hot soapy water. I have a bottle sterilizer that just goes in the microwave but even that I don't use every time.

Like one of the pps...I started off with the microwave sterilizer but quit.

I just use hot soapy water and a bottle brush and rinse with hot water. Before first use of nipples or pacifiers, I put them in the sterilizer but that's it.

We use hot soapy water and a bottle brush too. We use Gerber bottles; they're the "good" kind of plastic and a lot cheaper than Born Free. If you're interested in which bottles to get, this is a good article that lists all of the manufacturers and rates the safety of the plastic used in their bottles: http://zrecs.blogspot.com/2007/11/z-report...ottles-and.html
