I am planning on BF but I have to go back to work after 6 wks so will be forced to us a bottle at that point (hopefully with expressed milk). These are our first babies and there are so many bottles on the market. A lot of my friends with singletons have used the Playtex Drop-Ins but I don't know if I am thrilled about having to buy the inserts all the time.

Anyone want to give advice on what bottles worked for them...which ones that didn't work and why?

    Thanks! :D

    Hi there!

I can definatly tell you which one didn't work for me! The avent ones...they were horrible!! VERY LEAKY anad the nipples are VERY hard..would never buy them again...

I really enjoyed the playtex drop ins, they were great! The only thing that sucks is having to buy the drop ins for the bottles al lthe time...another expense.. My girlfriend found the playtex ventair GREAT.. because it sucks all the air out without the drop ins, and the bottles are great because of the angle they are at..

So my suggestion is definatly the regular playtex bottles with the drop ins, and myself am goin to try the ventair ones once the twins are born..

    Good luck!! :D

I started with born free bottles, which were good, however they were difficult to shove in sleepy babies mouths, which sometimes you have to do. MaM have great nipples for that so we stuck with those.

Planning on using the bottles with breastmilk, as well, and we've gotten the Playtex Ventair ones -there are new ones that recently came out that are BPA free. We had great success with these bottles with my first little one. She had bad reflux and these bottles were SO good, so we got them again for the twins! :)

I agree that the Avent ones suck... we got different bottles the first time and tried them all to see which would work well and we ended up loving the Ventair ones by Playtex.

I really like the playtex drop ins bottles and you can buy larger boxes of liners which last a while. I plan on using those again with these 2.

We use Dr. Brown's and really liked them! I would recommend getting 3 or 4 different dishwasher baskets if you get Dr. Browns so you can easily sort the parts.

I BF my daughter, but toward the end we switched to bottles due to some issues. She loved Dr. Browns BPA free ones as well as the BORN FREE BPA Free ones when she was little older. Both are awesome!

I'm going to be breastfeeding too, but I plan on picking up a few of the born free ones to have on hand for an occassional bottle. I've heard that they work well for breastfed babies. Whatever you decide on I highly recommend only buying a few to start. My first would have taken any bottle out there and moved easily btw the avent and Dr. Browns that I had, but with my second we went through tons of brands trying to find one she would use. This time I'm starting with 4 bottles until I know for sure that the boys will take them.

For both my ds and dd we just used regular gerber bottles. I bf as well and they had no probs with regular bottles. There are a lot of nice brands like dr browns etc, but they are spendy and i got along fine without them

All three of my kiddos have reflux, so we used a few bottles. With my oldest, we used Ventaire. When I was pregnant with the twins, I looked into finding BPA free bottles, and Ventaire didn't have any. We started with the dropins and used them for a couple months. We only bought 6 total bottles and a few nipples. They have used Dr. Brown's bottles the most and E is still on his. K is using a nuby cup.

    HANDS DOWN Sassy MAM...

They are pretty new I was told. Between the twins and Tyler I have tried every bottle on the market and I will NEVER use anything but Sassy MaM Again. LOVE THEM!!

A few thoughts. I tried Dr. Brown's and found them too fussy with too many parts and the nipples to narrow and long. I liked Avent for the wider nipple which was more like a breast, but in the end, I chose and went with Born free, which did leak less than Avent and were BPA free (though the EU has now determined non-existant threat from BPA, who wants to chance it?). Anyway, I will say that if you plan to pump, it is nice if your pump and the bottles used coincide. Dr Brown bottles fit the flanges of the Medela brand pumps, which I personally recomend (the pump in style advanced.) However, I know that Avent has a pump that fits their bottles and may also fit Born Free, as they are similar styles. Otherwise, you will do (as I did) a lot of transferring milk, which is ok, but then for me having supply issues, every drop of BM mattered, and it irked me when I poured out the BM from the medela bottles and still had those remaining (impossible to access) drops.

Another thing, don't be too hard on yourself to pump after returning to work in 6 weeks! It can take that long to establish a strong milk supply and then returning to work can impact it. Having twins will make the whole process of being a working-mom and pumping all the more taxing--so go for it, but remember combo-feeding isn't the worst thing in the world. Good luck to you mama!! I myself may have to return to work at about the 8 week mark, so I feel your pain.

My best suggestion to you would be to not buy too many on any one kind of bottle before your babies get here because you don't know what kind they will end up liking. I bought a ton of Avent bottles (and of course cleaned them and got them all ready), then when my girls came home they wouldn't have anything to do with them. We went through a couple more different kinds before we finally found Dr. Browns, and they worked great. As PP have mentioned, my girls also had reflux and this worked great for them. Good Luck!

Dr. Browns, they are a little more expensive but worth it. Everyone is amazed that my boys rarely spit up and are not gassy.

We are going to use Dr. Browns for EBM and also the occasional formula. My lactation nurse recommended the slim version of Dr. Browns only as it most closely resembles the breast/nipple. The wide ones are totally different and babies know this. I have used both Dr. Browns and Avent in the past (with our 2 DS's) and even though the DB bottles have a lot of parts, they really do make a difference with spit up and stomach gas.
