Okay, I have read some people post that babies at a certain age should get their bottles first and then their solids or vice versa. My pedi has always told me to give them their solids first and then bottles b/c they might fill up too much on their bottles and not eat their solids.

Well, my little piggies always finish the solids completely and then drain their bottles. But while I am feeding them their solids, most of the time they are SCREAMING b/c I am not feeding them fast enough. They have big fat alligator tears streaming down their faces. They are 7 months old today. They have loved all the food I have introduced except peas...they like the rice cereal, squash, carrots and sweet potatoes.

I am getting to the point where I completely dread mealtime. Today I told my one daughter to shut up. I felt so bad that I started crying and called my husband hysterical and he was worried about me and almost came home immediately until I convinced him not to and that I was okay.

Should I go against my pedi's advice and give them their bottles first???? Or is this something that I will just have to deal with? Please help!!

Bottle first, then solids. BM or formula is the most important food a baby needs during the first year, plus it will make feeding them solids much nicer.

You poor thing, it sounds like you were really stressed! [IMG] [IMG]

I agree with Jenny. Formula first since it is most important. I always give solids 45-60 minutes later, and they do great with that. If I tried solids first, which I did ONCE only, they scream bloody murder!! [IMG]

I have five kids and two step kids...I always give solids first and then bottle or breast because I feel they get too thirsty the other way around. Either way, I wouldn't fret and beat yourself up, either way, they are going to survive. Also, try putting Cheerios on the tray while you are feeding them. They may get distracted in between bites.

Bottles first then solids at that age.

From the day we started solids, we did solids first than the bottle. Starting at around 6 months, I would put cheerios or goldfish on their trays to keep them busy between bites, and also to give them a "no pressure" beginning to table foods and self feeding. To me it made sense to do solids followed directly by a bottle, and at 7 months mine were on 3 meals a day. They had breakfast and lunch with a bottle, and a bottle after nap at 4, dinner at 5:30, bottle before bed.

I nurse/give bottles 45-60 minutes before "solids." I think this is recommended by most pedis to ensure that they don't fill up on solids and then not get the important nutrients needed from the formula. Although, this doesn't sound like a problem for you since they take both! BUT, I'd strongly recommend you switch the order so that you can enjoy mealtime. I nurse when they wake up and then about an hour later I give cereal. When they wake up from their fist nap, I nurse, then about an hour later I give them "lunch." This repeats with their second nap and "dinner." I then nurse again just before bed time. At mealtime, I put them in their high chairs and give them some cheerios while I prepare their food (although, I don't think I started the cheerios until 8 months). When they are done eating, I give them a sippy cup with a little water while I clean up/wash the dishes. Most of the time the water ends up all over the tray, but they have fun!

Ditto, we do bottles then solids about 45-60 minutes later. They love it that way and they get all the formula they need. Less crying too! [IMG]
