    HI Everyone,

My twins are still struggling to break out of their bottle habit as they are going to be 13 mos old now. I do give them sippy cup and straw but they throw them around and play with it. I have to often clean up the "drip" tons of times.

Anyone else out there going throught the same phase? ;)

    Ugh, the drips.

Do they drink out of the sippies at all?

I started my babies on straw cups so that they wouldn't have to tip them up to get something out. By 13 months, they could drink out of both types.

What happens if you try to replace a bottle with a sippy? I would try it first thing in the morning, when you know they are going to be thirsty, and just see how they do.

    Good luck!

Well, mine are way past this stage but one thing that I would recommend is picking one type of cup or another. If they are trying to learn to drink from both a sippy and a straw cup they might be geting confused or frustrated. With a sippy they have to tilt back and with the straw cup they don't. I would stick to one type until they get the swing of it. And, I wouldn't give in and give them their bottles back. If they're thirsty they will drink! Good luck!

My daughter seem to get a better handle with sippy cup and straw (only if I hold it for her) while she take the sip. If you had saw what my son does -- he get so MAD at me and throw the bottle down. I've been trying since they were 9 mos old.

There is so MANY sippy cups out there and I have brought several different ones. The only one that seem to be working okay is by Gerber.

I'll just have to keep on getting them used to their new drinking habit and to hide those bottles from them. Maybe, they'll start changing their habit?

Try giving them the sippy, in their highchairs, but take out the valve. It will be messy, but will teach them how the liquid comes out. Once they get that, you can put the valves back in and they will do better.

According to the speech therapist, though, straws are way better then bottles or regular sippies in terms of speech development.

Thank you for your advice, I'll do that and see what happens. Yes, I agree with on about the straw sippy cup. I am glad Rianna can achieve the straw but she does not know how to hold it right. I'll keep trying with Justin. He is ONE big STUBBORN boy!

My twins hate the sippy's with valves too...I found the straw cups are better, nubys are good. I am slowly starting to get them off bottles starting with during the day...so instead of a nap time bottle they now get a sippy of milk after lunch. DD is ok, DS is still not sure about it and spits the milk sometimes. But it is just about getting used to something different. Once they have got the hang of that, I will offer a sippy of milk after breakfast instead of in a bottle. (we just switched to breakfast first then milk).

Mine had trouble with sippy's with handles, perhaps yours would prefer handles.

we went straight to straw cups. our therapist recommended them saying they were better for strenghtening the mouth/tongue. Just keep trying a few times and they'll get it!! Maybe as your weaning off the bottle, gradually. I would give the bottle for breakfast ,then a cup for lunch, etc.
