Oh my gosh - it's nearly impossible these days to feed my 16 week twins by myself!! I don't have the hands (nor the patience sometimes) to constantly battle their little hands!! They are obsessed with getting them in their mouths and seem to enjoy having their fists jammed in their mouths MORE than the life giving nutrition I am offering them! I'm hoping once they get over the general fascination, it will get better, but I'm guessing we'll just move onto new and more exciting ways to frustrate Mom during feeding time!!

    Suzi,

You're not alone! My 4.5 month old daughters went through the finger phase. Now they have realized that they can "hold" their bottles (they don't really support the weight, they just put their hands on the bottles or my hands) and they like to move the bottles in and out of their mouths. It's apparently much more fun to move the bottle than it is to drink from the bottle. It's so frustrating. This morning Eleanor spent five minutes in utter fascination and delight that she could make the bottle move. In. Out. In. Out. Sideways. In. Out. Down. Up. However, no milk was drunk! I had to remove her fingers and actually hold her hands down by her lap in order for her to eat.

    Sigh...

Good luck to you with the fingers!

Oh yes! Mine often try to suck fingers/thumbs and nurse at the same time. Give them a minute, though, and they figure out that something just isn't working right...

My girls still think this is fun. And what's even more fun is trying to steal your sister's bottle and it's also fun to play with toes and feet while drinking a bottle

you're totally not alone. the boys have discovered their hands with unparalleled enthusiasm . . . even when super hungry, the hands frequently seem more interesting!

Yup! We deal with that here too especially with Ana because she is a thumb sucker. When they do this, I take the bottle out of their mouth and hold it in front of them so they can see it. I usually say "You choose. Thumb or bottle." Not that they understand what I'm saying, but they usually take their hand out of their mouth and I pop the bottle back in. For the times they don't take their hand out of their mouth, I do it for them and then hold their hands while they drink. But I don't feed both at once so that might be difficult for you. GL! -Leighann

Mine get mad when i the bottle comes out yet they think that their hands and fingers and the bottle should fit. ROFL! It is too funny... Now my daughter wants her feet in her mouth... LOL...

Same here. Sophie loves to move her bottle. I am wondering if teething has anything to do with it too.

that's hilarious. i thought it was just my non-eater boys who did these kinds of things to stall because they hate eating in general. Especially the bottle in, out, in, out... man is that ever annoying.

My son that is nursing loves to break his "seal" by sneaking a finger in while nursing. I swear he thinks i don't notice because he does it from underneath where i can't see and pretends to still be eating... as if!! haha!

totally sounds like mine. Especially Jonas, he's my finger sucker...Lucas is still a pacie baby. Anyway...the in, out thing cracked me up because they do this with bottles. When they breastfeed, Jonas is determined to get my boob, his fingers, and Lucas' fingers in his mouth at the same time...then Lucas becomes amused and giggles. Very cute but frustrating at the same time!

I've got one of those too! My son constantly sneaks his thumb in while eating his bottle. It is the funniest thing. I do the same thing as PP's though. I pull the bottle out and he usually gets pissed and takes his thumb out and cries for his bottle.
