We are going to switch the boys car seats from a convertible to a booster before we leave on vacation and I am just wondering which ones you guys would recommend?? I saw an Evenflo one I like at Wal-Mart for 54.00 but I would like to get some suggestions from anyone out there that has switched thier children to boosters.

    Thanks so much!

Are you switching them to belt positioning boosters? I'm not sure that they are old enough. You might want to check the laws in your state. I'm pretty sure that it's 3 years and 30 lbs. in most states. There are a few quick links at the top of this page with lots of info about boosters. Mine are older than yours and are still in 5 pt harnesses and will be for quite a while! We have the Radian carseats that go up to 65 lbs. A 5 pt harness really is the safest option!

I think you should contact the state patrol in your state to see what their carseat laws are. In fact you should contact the state patrol of each state you'll be traveling in since it is up to you to make sure your children are in legal seats. I just say this since I'm sure Melissa is right and that they need to be 3 yrs and 30 lbs.

I agree. I would contact your patrol office before you make any changes. I think 2.5 is a tad young to make the switch.

We are just a few months younger than yours and I would also recommend moving them into a seat that still has a 5-pt harness. We have outgrown our convertibles, but have just switched to the Radian 65 seats.

I agree. I think I put mine in boosters (took out of 5 PT's) at 4 years old even though the law allowed me to do it sooner. It's just not worth the risk.

Are you talking about a high back booster? I just went to Wal*Mart online and don't see an Evenflo for $54 so I am not sure if the one you are referring to is a high back but we transitioned from convertible's to high back boosters with the 5 point harness then eventually (once we hit 40 pounds) we went to just the seatbelt still in the high backs. We were given the Eddie Bauer high backs from a TS member and they have been great, no complaints.

I switched my oldest to a booster at 4 years and he was over 30 lbs (which the booster seat called for). Check what the seat says as well. We got ours at Walmart for about $20... it's Graco.

I am not going to switch them to the boosters for 40+ pounders, I understand that they are not old enough for those. I was talking about the next step after they outgrow thier convertibles. The Evenflo I was talking about at Wal-Mart was actually $59 and it has a 3-pt. harness with the latch system http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4366138 .
I would not in any way put my children in harms way.
My boys are 30 pounds now though so even if I was going to put them in the seat belt boosters they would technically be okay, however I know that they are not ready for those (mainly because they would climb out of them)!

    Thanks for your help!

Actually that one is a 5-point harness. We have that one for Grant and I LOVE it!! I put him in this seat when he turned 3 b/c he was too big for the convertable. I will prob change him to the seat belt rather than the 5-point at 4 years.

I was thinking that might be the one you meant when I was looking last night, it looks almost exactly like what we have just a different manufacturer (high back booster). K&K love them although I am thinking of making the change to a regular booster soon for Kyle since he is starting to get a little wide for the high back with the arm rests on the sides.

That is one like we got my oldest DD around 2.5 years old. She used that with the harness and then when she turned 4 we just used the seatbelt with it. Then a few months later we bought her a Graco Turbobooster. It worked great for us.
