I will need to move the boys out of my convertible seats soon, but what next? I want to keep them in the 5-point as long as possible, but most of the boosters I'm coming across have a 5-point weight limit of 40 pounds and then it is to be used with the regular seat belt. Do you have any suggestions about which car seats use the 5-point system for over 40 pounds? I know Britax has one (I think the Regent). Are there others?

    TIA! [IMG]

Yes Britax Regent goes beyond the 40 lb limit as well as the Radian from Sunshine kids. I know there are some more and bet you will get LOTS more advice. Kudos to you for keeping your twinks the safest possible while riding in a vehicle [IMG]

We just got the Sunshine Kids Radian Carseats and I'm very happy with them! They don't go to boosters, but they do have a high weight limit. They're skinny, so I can fit 3 across my back bench seat in my car. Also, they're much lower to the actual car seat than their previous seats, so I think they are more comfortable with the way their legs hang - kwim? They have one that goes to 65 lbs and one that goes to 80 lbs. I got the 65 lb ones b/c my kiddos are pretty small. I didn't weigh 80 lbs until 8th grade, so hopefully the 65 lbs will be high enough for us [IMG] I got them from www.elitecarseats.com. They have free shipping and gave me a twin discount of 10%, so I got both seats for $360 ($180 each). I had to call the 1800# for the discount. HTH [IMG]

If you need a seat right away (and are not concerned about it changing into a booster down the road) then the Radian may be a good choice. The Regent is supposed to HUGE but even more important, they're supposedly impossible to get your hands on right now. If you've not visited the Baby Bargains book boards, they've got more car seat talk going on than you can shake a stick at! One of their stickies is about commonly asked car seat questions, including "my child is growing out of the convertible, what do I do?"

Good luck - I think we're going to be in this situation soon ourselves and will definitely be opting for another five point restraint!

We just bought these Safety 1st seats. You can use them with the 5 point harness up to 65 pounds. We had looked at a couple of other options, but these seemed the best choice for us within our price range.

I did see the Radian car seats, but one of my boys is pretty stocky so I didn't know if he would fit well in a skinnier seat. Does that make sense? I hadn't seen the Safety 1st seat...thanks for the link, Sarah!

I've been researching into back-up car seats so when the kids start preschool the grandparents can help pick them up. I wanted them to stay in a 5-point harness and have narrowed the selection to the Safety 1st. What I like is that you can keep them harness and then it converts to a booster seat to 100lbs which is great.
