Okay... I LOVE my dd, but i've had enough with the picky eating. i can't be short order cook any longer... she also does NOT do time out unless we physically lock her in a room and she's having some small behavioral issues at school. She does have "special needs" and she was my first child so i know i screwed up majorly in a number of ways, but i've GOT to find some help.

I'm a book reader and i really like to find advice that way... what do you recomend. I have positive discipline for preschoolers, that i'm about 1/2 way through and i still haven't gotten past the psychology of it all.

    help...

    TIA

I have a very picky eater!! I was going to buy the book by William Sears called Healthiest Kid on the Block. He also has a million more other books and a website you can google and find it.

I don't know if this would address the other issues, but I really liked "Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense" by Ellyn Satter.

She focuses a lot on starting solids and early table foods, which might be frustrating for you (I felt like I was behind, just because my kids were already a year old and I hadn't been following her advice when they were 6 months), but I think she does also discuss how to get back on track if you already have a preschool-age picky eater.

Someone also gave us a book called "Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline." I've only read the first chapter so far, but according to the reviews on Amazon, it seems to be an extreme example of the "gentle discipline" philosophy -- don't know whether that resonates with you or not. You might want to browse it at least. Good luck!

I don't have any advice on the discipline, but I have a great book suggestion about eating: Child of Mine, Feeding with Love and Good Sense, by Ellyn Satter. This is a really great book about childhood nutrition with all sorts of tips on what and how to feed your kids. She specifically addresses why you shouldn't be a short order cook and what to do instead. This book has been really helpful to me.

You might want to check out 1,2,3 Magic. I read it to use with preschool students in my classroom and it could really help.

I like 1-2-3 Magic for discipline. I don't have a suggestion for eating book-wise. I make one meal and serve it to mine. If they don't eat it then they don't get dessert (fruit). Also, I don't make a 2nd choice. They will have a snack or another meal in a few hours and they won't starve! Maybe you could start by always including 1 thing that you know she will eat and try to encourage her to eat the other items as well, but don't make any back up choices.
