Had my last ultrasound yesterday, both bubs are head down and doing well. Baby A was breathing so much that the OB couldn't measure her blood flow, but at least she's getting her breathing under control :)

Also had antenatal clinic and an internal exam, cervix although soft is very tightly closed so they won't be able to do a stretch and sweep induction, so they've booked me in for an induction via Prostin gel, for next Thursday evening (1st Sept) with bubs hopefully coming on the Friday. Basically, I go in on Thursday night, they give me the gel to open the cervix, if nothing happens, they try again in 6 hours and if water doesn't break by itself, then they will do that as well.

Still have another antenatal appointment on Monday morning. With going in on Thursday night, they will put me in the maternity ward but there's no room for anyone to be with me until I go into labour and the birthing unit which should hopefully be in the morning.

Unless of course I go before hand, but that seems unlikely, as they are very comfortable in there and not wanting to budge and just "play with each other" as Doc says :)...

    Yay, the end is nigh!

Any stories of induction with this method would be very welcome! I do know that labour can be more intense with the gel, and that I will most likely be hooked up to monitors and that there is a very small risk of rupture of membrane (but that's not something I will be focusing on)...

:yahoo: That's exciting news! I know you put a lot of thought into your decision & it sounds like you've come to one you're very comfortable with. Can't wait to see the pics of your beautiful new babies. :good:

Yay for a date! I hope that cervix of yours opens up a little between now and then, too, so you can have the option of the s&s.

I was induced with just straight pitocin, I was already pretty much completely thinned out and about 1cm dilated. It still went smoothly, though! I hear the contractions are more painful, but they were my first so I don't know! They were definitely intense and there seemed to be very little transition; I went from not feeling anything to having full on, crippling contractions in about 10 minutes. But it was over pretty quick, so no complaints.

    Good luck!

Thank you everyone! Yes I am very relieved and excited also, to have a date to look forward to. I can't wait to see them and what they will look like (my background is Fijian-Indian and my husband b/g is Maltese-German) so they will have an interesting look for sure (I already call them my chocolate covered babies due to the high content of Cadbury's Dairy Milk I've consumed in the pregnancy)..

Rachel, thank you so much for the time you've taken to guide me through all the uncertainties I've experienced - I am so happy that I have reached the stage where I feel comfortable with what's being planned and decided, and I certainly wouldn't have been if it hadn't been for all you lovely ladies taking time to read through my anxieties and put them to rest. :thanks:

I am not holding out on the cervix opening up too much, they were pretty much the same with DD, and even with weighing the risks of the gel, I feel more comfortable in being in the hospital under monitoring with the gel than being sent home after the s&s which could take days and then possibly me going over into the 38th week which fills me with trepidation... the more I think about it, I don't think that I'll be the ideal candidate for the s&s as much as I would prefer the actual procedure to the gel, because of my history of going overdue and having waters broken with DD.

Yay for September 1 - it's the first day of spring here so what a wonderful time for a baby or two be born.... so excited

    Congratulations!

I wasn't induced with the gel because I was already 3-4 cm dilated, but I just wanted to let you know that I was induced and has a successful vaginal delivery... it was important to me to hear that going in, to know that it WAS possible because everyone I knew that had an induction in person ended up with a c section. But mine went smoothly, it just took FOREVER (went in 9 am on a thursday had the babies at 3:56 and 4:03 on friday!).

Thanks Keirin, I've been told that I can expect a vaginal delivery and it's doubly comforting to hear your words. I am also expecting it to not work straight away - at least I hope not, as I go in in the evening and won't be able to have support in the maternity ward until the morning...

Tas had her girls, she has a thread in the NICU forum, and I know her girls and her can use some thoughts and prayers.
