My twins are sick and the ped instructed me to suck their noses about five times a day. I went to Babies r Us and bought several different nasal aspirators aka "booger suckers". None of them seem to have very much suction and the boys HATE when I do it. Does anyone have any suggestions for good booger suckers?

    Thanks

DS had chronic congestion until he was 3 months old, leading to lots of booger sucking, it isn't so much which sucker you use, but there are a few tips the pedi gave me that helped. I had the plain old blue bulb syringe. Put saline drops in their nose first, it helps to loosen up the boogers to make them easier to suck. Also if you close the nostril you aren't sucking, you get more suction and have to do less overall (although my DS hated hated hated it). I also found that if I did it in a bright room it would make him sneeze, further aiding the booger extraction process.

Good luck, and I hope that the colds pass quickly.

Thanks those are some really good tips. I will try it as soon as they wake up from their nap!

Hospital suckers worked best for us as well!

I have not read pp but when my DS is congested I end up in the bathroom with the door closed and the shower on hot - the steam really makes him more comfy and he usually ends up falling asleep.

The hospital ones scare me as they do not have a stop to prevent you from getting it up too high. My little ones fight me on it so I had to get one that had a stopper.

I have a blue one by the first years and I love it. Not only does it stop you from going too high, the top opens up so you can wash it out.

    Hope they get better soon!

This is a totally disgusting concept, but it works better than anything! My twins have had one cold, and it worked wonders. WAY better than any bulb syringe. Put a little saline in their noses, then suck out all the boogies...(preferably with the babies in straitjackets, since they do not enjoy the process!)

Btw, even though it looks gross, no mucus gets anywhere near your mouth. There's a filter thingy, and the snot doesn't even come within inches of the filter.

Hope those babies feel better soon!

I have both the hospital one and one I bought called Little Noses I think. The hospital one is just way to big so I like the other one, it is small and has a little curved neck so it seems to work the best.

I second the one Fuschia linked to -- best thing ever!! I still use it on my 4-year-old who refuses to blow her nose (after I chase and pin her down that is, LOL).
