Bonking head on crib

So my twinks just turned six months old on Thursday. One of them is very mobile and thrashes around so much in her crib that she bonks her head and wakes herself up. Good times. Any advice or does she just need to outgrow it? We never bought crib bumpers because of the safety warnings, and I just can't think of anything else that would help.

They do sell breathable bumpers for the cribs. I'm not much help other than that though. My kids had their bumpers from the get-go. I finally got rid of them after they turned 2! I did take the crib bumpers out at one point, but they were getting their legs stuck, etc and it wasn't worth it.

I have breathable crib bumpers. They're not very padded, but they do soften the blow a little bit and they're excellent soother catchers. Might solve your problem!

we didn't have bumpers for the first 5-6 months but then my daughter was getting her limbs stuck and both kids were bumping their heads so we put them in (the padded ones) and they have been fine ever since. To be honest, I am not so worried about it b/c they are moving around in their sleep ALL the time. Everytime I look in on them they are in a different position  GL

We use crib bumpers too (from the time they were about 7 months old because they were in the co-sleeper until that point) and I'm not worried about it because they move around a lot so the suffocation hazard seems minimal. They also tend to bonk their heads on the crib rails so the bumpers pad them a bit. So you can always try those! I'm not sure she'll "grow out of it" as such but she may get used to it and stop waking up fully every time she does it.

does she cry? we were amazed that they would get right up to the edge of the wooden crib and not hurt themselves... but I never actually had a bumper in my dd's crib, b/c I never made it... anyway, I did end up borrowing the breathable bumper at one point, but truthfully that was just to keep the pacifiers in the crib. it didn't really cushion at all.

if you are worried about arms & legs getting stuck, i will say that the crib tents that have the full surround inside are great. the new ones have the full netting on the inside and the mattress lays on top. you might not need the "tent" part of it yet, but that's an option to keep arms & legs inside.

oh, and in a few months you'd need to get rid of the bumpers (maybe) if they start using them to climb out of the crib anyway, I wouldn't go buy bumpers at this stage if it were me.

She doesn't always cry, but she does sometimes, as if she's startled herself. We'll rethink the bumpers and tents. Thanks everyone!
