I have a book that says you can stop boiling water for formula once babies reach 4 months. At what month did you all stop?

We never boiled it, but we used cold water from the tap (less bacteria) and heated it on the stove.

We never boiled our water, we did use RODI water from a unit under our sink for the entire time they used formula. I warmed it in the microwave til around 5 months.

Honestly, I never did it. To start off with, while I was breastfeeding we used the ready to feed formula. This past month when I stopped breastfeeding and started getting WIC, we went to the concentrate and just use straight tap water. With my other kids, I never boiled the water either.

Never boiled it for the twins or my singleton. With my singleton we used cold tap water (not even filtered) and with my twins we use cold filtered water from our fridge!

We never boiled it. We were told it wasn't necessary with our city/municple water. We just used it from the tap and felt it for luke warm. When we went out, they were ok with room temp water for their formula.

Yep-never boiled the water here! I would say for the first 2-3 months, we did use bottled water for the boys. After that-straight tap water. I would just use warm water. And for Annabella-she got straight tap water as well. Checked with the pedi-and he said it was totally fine.

Same here. For the first 2 or 3 months we used bottled water because we felt we were "supposed" to. Then I got really sick and tired of lugging in 5 gal containers of water with all the groceries, LOL. I asked our pedi and she said tap was fine. And we get water reports every few months and everything looks to be fine with my town's water supply. I would use filtered water from our fridge but I just don't have the patience to fill up two 32 oz containers for every batch of formula (it's barely more than a trickle).

ETA: we definitely use cold tap water though and never warm tap water due to the potential for heavy metals and impurities in hot water tanks.

We've never boiled the water, nor have we ever used bottled water (except during hurricane season but only because we stock up and don't want to waste it--btw, we need to start restocking soon :)).

I never boiled water for any of my kids. They were all full term and got supplemental bottles of formula. Once the free hospital stuff ran out we just used filtered tap water. I *think* the rules might be different with premies so if you are worried it wouldn't hurt to call your ped.

YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BOIL THE WATER????????????????!!!!!!!!!!

I have five younger siblings, and my kids are 29 nine months old, been a nanny, and babysitter all my life- have trillions of moms with kids and have NEVER and I mean EVER seen this done!

Wow! I'm glad I didnt' know that then that would have been A LOT of work!

Guess I'm the odd ball here but I still boil the water lol. I fed them the pre-made formula for the first four months and boy was that expensive!! Then I started boiling the water and making the bottles the night before I would use them. Twin A had colic so bad I didn't want ANY air bubbles in the formula once I mixed it. Pedi said to do it that way. Twin B has acid relux and would vomit out half his formula so I didn't want air in his either. Recently I started taking purified bottled water with me places so I could make a bottle on the spot and twin A is not particuly thrilled about it. Twin A will not eat unless its the perfect temp. If its too hot or too cold he refuses it. Twin B will accept it either hot or cold. We are getting a filter soon. Maybe then I will make the switch. I will still have to probably warm it up just perfect for twin A...sigh...

I did it for 3 months. They were preemies and that is what our Ped wanted us to do. Then I just went to using Nursery Water.

I should probably say that I bf for the first 4 months, past their original due date. I may have boiled it if they'd been getting formula before that.

Yes, it says right on the cans of formula to 'pour desired amount of previously boiled water into a sterilized bottle'

I didn't boil either, my ped said it wasn't necessary since we have city water.

I do have a brita filter but that's more for taste than anything else, our water lines just leave a "taste" that I don't like, so we filter most of our water. :) I just bought a pitcher for the counter, leave it by the sink, fill during the day and then use the water at night when I made their formula. At the peak of their formula intake (about 70 oz a day combined) it took nearly a full pitcher of water to make it. Now I use that water for their juice cups.

I stopped around 6 months. I did b/f for 6m but they got formula at bedtime and it usually was pre-made, if I did use concentrate it was w boiled water. I was told at the hospital that they weren't allowed to have powder until 6m has anyone else heard that or is it just a Canadian thing?!

I've heard that if they're preemies that you're not supposed to use powdered formula but not until WAAAAY after mine weren't preemies...I used powdered from the beginning and never boiled the water...used bottled for the first month and then after that the fridge filter was hooked up so I used filtered from the fridge...I also never warmed their formula - they took it cold out of the fridge or room temp - in fact warming it made my son vomit even more than when it was cold...
