So I have had an extremely painful cyst like bump about an inch below where my butt crack starts. I mean EXTREMELY painful- keeps me awake at night painful! and tonight it got rock hard and I pushed on it and a milky pinkish liquid came out of it. My friend says it is a boil. Boils are really bad for people with weakened immune systems and why do I have a feeling that pregnancy weakens your immune system?
I am incredibly scared right now. The on-call urgent line for my OBGYN just rings and rings and rings.
Most boils can be taken care of at home. And I cleaned it very, very well to prevent infection.

Has anyone had anything like this, any advice?

Yep! You did the right thing! You could try putting on as hot as you can stand compresses on it for a day or so but mine have healed up rather quickly. You are right...they can be from a weakened immune system. Since I've taken good supplements throughout my pregnancies I've been able to avoid them along with a number of other issues I've had in the past. Sometimes I break out shortly after pregnancy but I believe that's more the release of the old pregnancy hormones. Not to worry you or anything. ;)

I think they can also come in that location from sitting around a lot... don't know if you work at a desk or have a long commute...but that can cause them too...dh got one in that spot once... he had to go to the ER to have them drain it...it popped while he was waiting in the waiting room... They told him it can be an infected hair. It was pretty painful and he was actually on some pain relievers for day or two after they finished draining it and packed the area with gauze.... Definitely not something to mess around with b/c it can get badly infected, especially in that location....I think it's horrible that your doc's urgent line is ringing and ringing... do they have another number to call???... if it gets too bad I would head into the ER or urgent care center so they can take care of it. I think they give you a topical ansethetic and then lance it, clean it and put gauze there....

They are so painful - and I cant imagine having one in that spot. I would say take something for the pain put antiseptic on it and try to keep the pressure off it. And see your Doc asap.
I started to get a sore butt at about 25 weeks or so, I thought it must be from the extra weight and all that sitting - so I started using powder to stop chaffing and rubbing.
:hug99: If it doesn't rain, it pours - hey.

I was always told that cysts and boils come up when you are low in vitamin C.Turns out thats only partially right. I checked it out on webmd and be careful as this is the same as the new drug resistant strain that is out there and causing problems. Its been on the news all over the place over here. Some kid in high school got one on his calf. If it gets worse and you see more symptoms - get it checked out right away - better safe than sorry. Most boils are caused by a germ (staphylococcal bacteria). This germ enters the body through tiny nicks or cuts in the skin or can travel down the hair to the follicle. there is a list of other causes and low immune system is listed among poor nutrition and other things. Just keep an eye on it, ok? It could mean your life.

Ouch. The fact that it's draining is a really good sign - it should start healing up on its own now. I would try doing sitz baths (soaking your bottom in warm water and soap) 3x/day as well as warm compresses, like someone else suggested. Also keep squeezing it daily to keep it draining. If the area around it starts getting more red and painful or if you get a fever, then you need to see a doctor.

It sounds like a pilonidal cyst. This usually needs to be opened up and drained by a doctor. If you cannot see your regular doctor, I would go to and urgent care or ER to have them take a look at it.

My twin girl had one ... she had to go on antibiotics immediately and the fever went down (over 104), but it didn't go away. So we flew back from Europe, went back to the doc here and within a few hours she was hospitalized. She was put on different antibiotics (IV) and she had surgery the next morning to drain the abscess. She stayed for 48 hours in total (2 nights with jet lag). She was a trooper and it was all very minor, however it turned out to be the very difficult to treat MRSA bacterie since it's resistent to so many antibiotics.

Doctors told me they're very common in babies (with diapers and everything) and it has nothing to do with bad hygiene and things like that. Some people get them more easily that others.

I would see a doctor as soon as you can. If it's draining then that's at least a very good sign. Any fevers?
