We went through a period last summer where Kyle was really competitive and didn't want to play if he wasn't winning. I ended up connecting it to the boy who was watching them a few days, as soon as he was gone so was the major competitiveness. Anyway, one of the things I did to work it through was continue to play the game with the child who didn't finish first. I am watching a Nanny 911 from a couple weeks ago (gotta love DVR) and the mom was playing a board game with her children and said something to the effect of 'you didn't win, how can you continue to play by yourself?' We do just fine continuing to play and the one who finished first cheers the others on.

What do you think/do? Keep playing or end the game when one finishes?

We keep playing. Especially since the current favorite is Life, everyone needs to finish before you can count up the money to see who won!

We keep playing. My boys are a little competitive and I know it would be an issue if I made a really big deal about who won.

We keep playing too. Just because someone got first place doesn't mean there shouldn't be a second and third place [IMG]. Also it means there is no possibility of the child who won teasing "you lost".

For us, it just depends on what game it is. Most of the time we keep playing, BUT my son is also very competitive and if someone wins first, he's ticked and doesn't want to continue a lot of times. We are working on this issue as well and at times, it's tough to deal with.

I think it sounds like a great idea...we're clearly not there yet, but I so look forward to playing games with my kids -- or as the case may be, having the kids to play games with ME!!!

We play a lot of card/board games around here, and we always stop when there is a winner. However, we make sure that we all tell each other "good game!" and give high fives and celebrate for the person who won. And we usually play the game again or play another game so another person has a chance to win. Jackson used to be a sore loser, but he's outgrown that, and Hayden and Brady are just excited to play and don't react negatively if they're not winners.
