blowing bubbles

When did your kids learn to blow bubbles by themselves? My girls want to do it themselves in the worst way, but they don't know how to blow. They try, but it's more like an F sound. I've had them look at my mouth when I do it and they still don't seem to get it? Were your kids able to blow bubbles at this age? Do I just have a couple of late bubble bloomers?

 

My one son was able to blow bubbles right before they turned 2. At 2 1/2, my other son is just getting it. Prior to that, they would just put the wand in their mouths. :bad:

Every morning when I give them breakfast, if it's hot, I will blow on it. They have since copied me and I think that is what has helped with the bubbles. I will tell them "it's hot....blow on it" and they will. They also like to blow on my coffee to cool it off. :laughing:

 

My girls were also right around 2½ when they figured it out. :good:

 

One was a bit past 2, my other DD was just shy of 3. She still tends to do a more 'open' mouth blowing than a true whistle style blowing. We got big dipping wands at that age so they both could enjoy it.

 

Mine are 4.5 and Sarah still can't quite do it. She understands the concept, but just doesn't make a tight enough circle with her lips or blow hard enough.

She did have speech therapy at age 2 and the therapist said the main issue was that her facial muscles were weak. She can talk just fine now, but maybe they're still a little on the lax side. :laughing: One thing the therapist did was to put a feather on the table in front of her and ask her to blow until the feather moved. You could try that....

Both of them seem to prefer those big wands that you wave around, anyway. The only trick with those is finding a large, flat container to hold enough bubble stuff!

 

Mine haven't quite got it yet!

 

What about a paint tray?

As for mine, they were just starting to get it at 2 1/2 and now at 3+ they are bubble fiends! My sitter taught them... I have no idea how though.
