So one of my DD has had a bloody nose 2 times this week during the night. She also has had dry cracked blood in one of her nostrils this past week. Jsut yesterday i started the saline drops in ehr nose to moisten it up. I kind of remember her getting them before, but can't remember if it was winter time or not. We have a two story that gets so hot and dry upstairs. She also has a space heater in her room that turns on if it dips below 63 in her room. Could this cause a bloody nose? I am starting to freak out, we just came in from playing outside because she started to get a runny nose, both nostrils, with one of them tinged red. Any thoughts on this for me? Help a scared momma!!! She also is getting over a cold that had a cough and runny nose about 2 weeks ago, she still has had a on and off runny nose.
    TIA!!

My children have had very light streaks of blood in their nose before from dry weather. Their father gets nose bleeds (mainly in his sleep) if it is too hot in the house.

If it is very warm/dry I would get a humidifier..that is what my pedi said to do..He also said it is best to keep your house around 67 ish.. I remember when I told him it is usually like 72 in my house, he said that was WAY too warm.

I think this is pretty normal. My nose bleeds (not lots of blood, just red-tinged snot -- sorry TMI) when it's really dry, especially if I've had a cold and been blowing it a lot. Use a humidifier, give her lots of fluids, and it might help to put some aquaphor right around the edge of her nose (but not in it), just in case the skin there is getting irritated.

Amanda gets nose bleeds all the time. I asked my mom how to handle it, and she said it's the nutrition.
Apparently, vitamins and minerals will help alleviate "hotness/dryness" inside the body.
Try cutting down on fried food and enhance their snacks with veggies and fruits.

You can also coat the inside of the nose with a little bit of vaseline by using a q-tip. Just make sure it doesnt clog the nasal passage at all. That will help moisturize the nasal passage.

that is, if you can stick the q tip up there in the first place.
My three year olds have the smallest nostrils.

Put vaseline on a q tip and swab it in each nostril in the morning and before bed. My brother used to get BAD bloody noses and that's what the Doc told us to do. I have done it also. Works GREAT!!! Also, use a cool mist humidifer in the nursery in winter months. :)
