I had my 1 hr glucose test last week and got my results back today which came back normal (thank goodness!) I was prepared to have to do the three hour test as I had to with one of my previous single pregnancies and I know gest. diabetes is more common with twins. Anyway, my results also came back showing I am anemic...which was also the case at my first appointment so I have been taking a prenatal vitamin and an iron supplement since first trimester. I have put a call in to doctor but will probably not hear back until tomorrow. Has anyone else had trouble with continuous low iron? Can I take extra iron supplements or is there something stronger I should taking? Besides exhaustion for me, what other effects can anemia have on a pregnancy?

Most women have low iron when they are pregnant. It was recommended I eat cream of wheat or other iron rich foods. Occasionally I would pop an iron pill, but my levels were not horrible.

Prunes are also a great source of iron.

i had my bloodwork done in L&D last night and they told me im severely anemic even though i take a prenatal and an extra iron every day. Now i have to take a second iron at night and eat lots of red meat and dark green veggies. Hopefully that will help.

I am almost 32 weeks pregnant and also found out I was anemic when I took the 1 hour glucose test. My OB prescribed me an iron supplement and I take my prenatal. I also have been eating beans, spinach salads and eating Total cereal. When they rechecked my iron levels 3 weeks ago, they were amazed at how much better it was. I am not sure what the numbers mean, but I know mine went up to a 12 (which I was told was good!)

    Good Luck!

I was also anemic and was prescribed an extra iron supplement in addition to my prenatals. I took it twice a day.
