    Hello.

I went to the ob's office to pick up my papers for work on Thursday. I was not feeling well, so they took my blood pressure. It was 140/90, done manually. So, of course the doctor sent me over to L&D to be monitored for a while. It was never that high on the computerized one at the hospital. It was very strange though because it went down to like 117/78 and then back up to 133/83. I know that I have not felt very well this week due to allergies/astma/ maybe a little bit of bronchitus.

Anyway, they made me do the 24 hr urine test and hopefully I will have the results on Monday. I was just wondering how many of you had problems with blood pressure and at what point should I become worried?

Sorry to hear your BP is up. It can be a sign of Pre-eclampsia which they will watch very closely. The 24 hour urine test will gauge whether your kidney's are stressed and spilling protein into your urine. Normal is 300 or below. They may also want to draw blood work to check platelets and liver function.

Pre-e is a really hard disease to diagnose but the main clues are BP readings 140/90 or above twice in a 6 hr period, and protein in urine. Also they'll want you to watch for vision changes, like spots in your vision or blurry areas, flashes etc. A bad headache, sharp pain under your right rib area. You can feel fine one day and be very sick the next so it helps to be watchful and report any changes to your OB.

I'm dealing with elevated BP myself. I went to L&D for monitoring and my 1st 24 hr urine came back at 396. So they kept me there for 5 days of monitoring. Luckily my 2nd 24 hr. urine was 294 and I was allowed to go home on modified bedrest. I have a home BP monitor and check it 4 times a day plus go in twice weekly for NSTs. I'm actually sitting here waiting for the results of my 3rd 24 hour urine test because my BP was higher than it had been the last couple days. I've also had a dreadful cold which I think may be the real culprit. But if my urine test is high, I'll be sent back to the hospital. Ugh!

Be sure you are not taking any decongestant cold meds which could raise your BP. Good luck with your test!

i was put on bedrest at 28 weeks w/ a blood pressure reading of 140/90. urine test was done at 34 weeks and i had very high protein in the urine....therefore pre-eclampsia and i delivered the day i got those results.

good luck and hopefully you can keep them babies baking as long as possible!

Thank you for the great information. Thank goodness I really don't have any of those symptoms right now. I will watch for them though. I have been coughing a lot due to allergies and asthma. That is causing me enough problems! Ihope my urine test comes back normal!

I need to keep these babies in for longer!!!!!!!

I'm glad they are taking precautions and keeping an eye on it.

Yes, I am also happy that they really take thing seriously. It is better to be over cautious then harm the babies or me!

I have had high b/p with both pregnancies but never had any proteins in my urine. Believe it or not my twin pregnancy was the most uncomplicated...not one issue. BUT, I also do have slightly high b/p when I'm not pregnant. I am on meds and was on meds during my pregnancy. Everyone is different. They should be monitoring you closely. And as long as they stay on top of it you and your babies will be safe.

    Take care!
