Blood pressure question

Discussion in 'Pregnancy Help' started by lisamoneymaker, Dec 1, 2009.

    Hi All -

Normally, and throughout both of my two previous pregnancies, my blood pressure is like 110/60 - really low. When I was giving birth to my son, when they hooked me up at admitting, I set off the alarms because I was like 102/65.

Anyway - both checks during this pregnancy (7w and 10w) I've been 120/70. I know not a big change, but I've never seen a 120 in my readings. We've moved, so I'm at a new Dr's office, and I'm not hugely impressed with the nurse... Do we think it's a sloppy reading, or should I be worried about my blood pressure being high(er) from my normal?

    I think you are fine.
Like you normal blood pressure is 100/60. Nurses often take two readings because they can't believe it's that low.

Remember that this is a twin pregnancy and not the same as your previous two pregnancies. You are experiencing a dramatic increase in blood volume at this stage in your pregnancy. There are soooo many people out there who would love to have a 120/70 reading! Next time you see the doctor mention it to him for piece of mind, and watch out for swelling, dizziness, seeing spots.

Honestly that's not a big variance. I'm sure the nurse is taking it correctly. And every pregnancy is different. But you're still in the healthy normal range, so really nothing to be worried about for now... good luck!

my blood pressure is super low- has been as low as 90s/50...usually it's about 100/60. I had one reading that was 120/70 i was shocked! then two days later it was back to normal.

No worries. I am always low, but during pregnancy it did reach 120 at times. It was both from pregnancy and stress when they were taking it. All was fine.

Always low BP here as well ... Still low during my first two (single) pregnancies, then I had one borderline reading around 36ish weeks with twins - I was turned on my left side and BP went down to it's low level. Very low pulse as well - lots of comments from the nurses.

Mostly mine was low, too (surprises nurses b/c I am 'plus-sized'). But I think Meximeli is right- it's just the super-duper blood volume & not anything to be very concerned about. Twins are stressful on the body.

    Congrats!

Sounds like mine ... I vary from 50/100 to 120-125/70 at the most ...

Mine is always super low as well (85/55 to 95/60)...but I've noticed a few times it goes up when I get a reading at the doc's b/c I'm stressed out corraling my ds (who's 3), worrying about issues related to the pregnancy, etc. My understanging is that the bottom number is more important in determining high BP than the top number. GL!
