For some reason, R has gotten really bad diaper rash in the last couple of days. Today it's actually a little bloody and he's obviously in pain whenever we try to change him. We are alternating some balmex cream and some hydrocordisone cream--any other suggestions for helping us get thru this and getting it healed up?

    Thanks, Joel

If it's bloody (the skin is broken) I would put neosporin on it and then something like A&D ointment. That happened to Catherine this summer at the beach from having sand in her diaper and that it what helped clear it up. Also, avoid wipes if you can. Just put him in the tub and then let him go diaperless for a while if you can. I hope he feels better soon. I know it's miserable. Catherine was so upset whenever she had to be changed.

Yeah, if you can let his bum dry out a little that will be good and use a little baby powder to dry out after wiping. It's really hard when they have that trouble!! [IMG] I hope it heals quickly!

My mother says mix corn starch and vaseline. We've been blessed to only have diaper rash ONCE with DD and never with DS, so I've never had to use it. She swears by it though.

I would get the doctor to call in a prescription diaper rash cream for it. My girls had a bloody diaper rash after having Rotavirus. They called in Nystatin with a steroid in it. It cleared it up in two days.

Jessy gets this way with almost every dirty diaper! We use a herbal rash cream that we got at our herb shop and it works great.

2 of my kiddos had bad diaper rash.... here were a few helpful things:
    1) Air time (that's what my Dr. called it.... he said babies in Africa don't get diaper rash, because they don't wear diapers)
    2) Burnt flour (I don't know, my Mom swears by it!!)
    3) Lamisil or some other treatment for yeast infections. many times when the rash gets that bad the yeast is secondary.
    4) this is my favorite.... it's prescription "Laniseptic" (I think I spelled it correctly. They gave it to my Grandfather in the nursing home & hospice. When I told my Dr about it he was glad to give us a prescription for it. You have to make sure their bottom is dry before you apply, but it's awesome.

One other good trick, if wipes seem to be a problem is make your own wipes. It seems crazy, but they are great. Cut a roll of Bounty (yes, make sure it's that brand.... the "Big" roll works best. Put 1 cup water, 1 tablespoon baby oil & 1 1/2 TBS baby bath in a rubbermaid & add the papertowels. It's been a while since I've made these, but there use to be a rubbermaid container which fit the 1/2 roll of papertowels perfectly. Anyway, you can modify the solution if you know certain bath products bother them.

    Good Luck!!
