I got my 14 month daughter out of her crib this morning, and there was a big spot of dried blood about the size of a silver dollar! This has actually happened a couple of times, but never that amount. I always chalked it up to teething, but at this point, all of her teeth have popped through (yes, at 14 months, my girls have all teeth except 2 year molars). There were no signs of blood on her face. I checked her nose and her mouth. Where is this mysterious blood coming from and should I be concerned?

Propably just a nose bleed but I'd keep an eye on her. Jazz has all of her teeth except her 2 year old molars and 2 of her eye teeth. You might try a cool air humidifer in their room and see if this helps. Nose bleeds are usually from over dry sinus cavities or an extremely violet sneeze.

My first thought was a nose bleed, too.

I agree...helps with the dry air. We keep one in our room too sometimes b/c DH will get nose bleeds when it's very dry in the house.

I know Morgan will sometimes get some blood in her crib too when she is jumping around and will hit her lip on the crib rail. She busted her lip on it before...granted, she screams when it happens. So, if this was just a round circle of blood, with no crying, I would bet it was definitely a nose bleed.

One of mine wakes up with that and it freaked me out too. Until I noticed his ear had scratches in it. He has excema so I think they must itch.

I would check her skin and ears for scratching, my oldest ds use to scratch in his sleep! It was awful! I had to start putting lotion on him right before bed!

The air thing could be it too, especially if you live in a dry area!!

We get spontaneous nose bleeds all the time and some times it isn't obvious that there was one when you look in their nose. However I have witnessed it during the day. My Dr said that some kids get lots of nose bleeds and others not, he also mentioned that they probably have the blood vessels in their nose close to the surface and when it gets dry they crack. But always best to get it checked out. As the kids have gotten older there is a bit more blood. We live in an EXTREAMLY dry climate, and we had 2 nosebleeds today.

Ainsley gets nosebleeds at night sometimes and you can't always tell that's what it was when you see the blood on the pillow. That would be my guess about the cause or if she sometimes hits her face on the crib side hard but, either way, I wouldn't be worried about it.
