The twins have to go into the lab and get their blood drawn for red blood cell and lead levels. I guess it is routine for one year check up. It is just bringing back bad memories of their time in the NICU. I thought I was all done seeing my babies get blood drawn. Luckily my mom is visiting from out of town so she is coming with me. This is the stuff I don’t like about being a mommy.

Sorry to hear about that. We haven't ever had to do any blood work on the kids. I hope it goes smoothly for you.

I am sorry to hear that it brings back bad memories. I just wanted to tell you, that my kids have had their blood drawn a couple of times, and neither of them cried. They were so intrigued by the procedure (especially this last time), that I think that they forgot to be scared! I hope you have the same experience.

I took mine when they were one. As long as you get someone that's good with kids you should be fine. Make sure that they use a butterfly which at this age should be automatic.

I kept on putting our blood draw off because I was panicked, but they were just fine! Hope you have the same experience!

I ditto the PP's. We had to get it done when a few months ago and they were totally fine. Rachel didn't cry at all and Danielle for a very short amount of time. They were more interested in watching and getting the bandaid.

We tried at 14 months but both babies were too chubby and the lab techs couldn't find suitable veins. I have a prescription to take them again... but I'm having anxiety about it. Hopefully DH can take off a morning from work sometime soon so he can go with me. Let us know how it goes!!

Ainsley has to get her blood drawn every 3 months for her thyroid condition. I'm not going to lie, she screams and cries and more recently starts fighting as soon as she sees the technician. I have to hold down both her arms so she doesn't cause her to mess up and have to start over. But, two seconds after it's done, she's fine. I hate having to do this, but it's necessary, and at least it's over quickly.

My girls have to get blood draws every six weeks for a syndrome they have that gives them a higher cancer risk. And I agree with the previous posts, as long as they use a butterfly and the tech has experience with young children you should be fine. My girls are facinated by the whole process, until the sting, then its over before they know it and all they care about is looking at the bandaid. I would definately bring a helper with, just so you can sit in the chair with the child who is getting drawn and the other adult can be the consoler when its over.

Well, we just got back and it was awful!!!!! I was shaking because my DD was crying so hard that they couldn't get her small vein. Then they said my mom should hold her because I couldn't do it right. My mom came in and handed me my DS and shut the door. I was in the hall hearing my baby wail at the top of her lungs! I thought I was going to puke. Then they were done and I grabbed my baby and handed her DS. I went outside with my DD and held her tight. She was shaking. Then I came back in and stood outside the door for DS to be done. No crying. Then they emerged and everyone was praising him for being so strong. That is when I noticed he had two arms bands too. They told me his vein on his right arm just gave one vile so they needed to draw from the other too. So both of my kids got both arms stuck. I will never do that again! I will pay a neighbor to do it for me if we ever have to again. I'm just trying to forget the whole thing like my sweet babies seem to already have done.

My girls had lead and anemia drawn but only did the foot stick. They didn't even really cry. I'm wondering if they couldn't have done the same for your babies. I'm sorry you had such an aweful time.
