    Hi ladies,
The nurse called me regarding my glucose test results yesterday and said I passed and glucose level looks normal, thought she didnt give me the numbers. But she said my blood count is low.. meaning the twins are eating away my energy I guess and she said I need to eat more iron rich foods or start taking iron supplements - the over the counter kind.

Is any of you taking iron supplements? If so can you recommend a good brand? I am also taking prenatal every night , so the nurse said it is okay to take iron supplement in the morning additionally. And it is absorbed best when taken with OJ.

    Thanks,
    sang

I was given an RX for Iron, which turned out to be cheaper than an OTC version. I think that it is pretty common in a twin pregnancy, especially if you have anemic tendencies, like me, when you aren't pregnant.

With my first I had to take an iron suppliment. I took Slow-FE Iron suppliment. It's a slow release suppliment, so you aren't getting it all at once but through out the day. I love it. Not sure where you live but I know I love the Odwalla b-smoothies... mmmm

Do prenatals not have enough iron for twin preg?

it is common, I needed it as well for borderline anemia.
You'll have more energy after being on them for a while.
Don't take w/ milk products though, milk counteracts the iron.

I'm on them too. I started out w/ just one/day but the babies stole that right away. :) Now I take one in the morning and one in the afternoon and my prenatal at night. My doc also said to take w/ OJ - helps absorption. You don't want to pee it out. I wouldn't worry about it. the babies just need a lot of your iron right now. I take and OTCounter type. They do come in different milligrams - so I would ask your doctor how many milligrams she/he wants you to take per day. That way she/he'll make sure you're getting the right amount at the right time.
    Hope that helps! :)

I have been on iron supplement since my 14th week - 28th week now. I am taking an OTC - Palfer-CF - it has iron, folate and vitamin C.

only had hemorroids the first week - which went away - drinking a lot of liquids and juices. cranberry juice and prune juice are amazing for regular bowel movements. also cranberry juice helps prevent uti's - prune juice is an amazing source of iron but it is yucky!!!!

I also take Slow FE, and it is helping.....especially because I couldn't stomach prenatals, and the OB told me to just take my daughter's Flinstone's gummies instead, which don't have iron.

I have only borderline anemia -- very, very common in twin pregnancy -- but it hasn't gotten any worse since I started taking the supplement daily, which is good.

Like a PP said, don't take it with milk products or anything containing calcium (so don't get the calcium-fortified OJ!) -- because it will block absorption....

  12. I take an iron supplement called Ferro-Sequels. What sets this particular type apart is that they contain a natural stool softener. I take one in the morning and one whenever I remember again. I'm really bad about taking pills. On top of that I have the prenatal, the DHA capsule, and Pepcid AC and it takes me about 3 tries to swallow each pill
