I've started bleeding. I tend to be a pessimist, so I am assuming the worst, but have any of you experienced bleeding (much more than spotting), almost a full period but with no cramping, and had the pregnancy be okay? I'm almost 7 weeks.

Thank you for any answers you have. By the way, I called the doctor and they said sometimes women bleed and things are okay. We had an ultrasound on Monday and the heartbeat was good.

Also... Moderators... I know you like to move this to the subforum, but there are a lot more people active in this area, and I would like as many potential responses as possible, so please don't move this to the pregnant after twins subforum. Thank you.

my girlfriend bled for her entire first and 1/2 of the 2nd trimester - every day. she even had 2 or 3 bouts of large amounts of bleeding and she was convinced she was miscarrying but each time, ultrasounds showed baby was fine. they never really knew the cause but thought it might have been polyps or cysts up on her cervix...???... the bleeding has stopped now and she's ready to deliver any day. it's not uncommon from what i hear but i cannot imagine how stressful it can be.

    hang in there! HUGS!!!

Is it bright red blood? If so, I wouldn't hesitate to go to the emergency room. I had bleeding at 14 weeks around midnight on a Friday night (best time for an emergency, right?). Initially, the blood was brownish. I called my doctor's nurse on call who said to immediately go to the ER if I saw bright red blood. About an hour later, I did; so I rushed to the ER.

At the ER, they put in an IV in case I needed a transfusion and then ordered an ultrasound and pelvic exam. I had a terrible doctor there who told me that I was experiencing a "threatened abortion" and that there was only a 50% chance my pregnancy would continue. I thought he was overly pessimistic given that he had just done a pelvic exam and saw that my cervix was closed and the babies looked fine on the u/s. After about 4 hours, they sent me home with instructions to remain on complete bed rest until I could see my OB on Monday morning. By Monday morning, the bleeding had stopped, and my OB, who had gotten a copy of the radiologist's report on the u/s performed in the ER, told me not to come in - just to wait for my next appointment. She did order me to stay out of work for another day or so and to take it easy. When I saw her a few days later, she said the radiologist saw a "little bleed" in the wall of my uterus that appeared to have resolved itself. She said the major things they look for (at least towards the end of the first trimester/beginning of the second) are placenta previa (where your placenta grows over your cervix) and placental abruption (where you have a bleed in the uterine wall underneath the placenta which can cause the placenta to separate from the uterine wall and cut off the babies' blood supply). I had neither condition; so she wasn't too terribly concerned. I haven't bled again since, and I'm now 31 weeks along.

I hope what you're experiencing is as minor as what I experienced and that everything is okay.

I've had all sorts of bleeding. Bleeding from a subchorionic hemorrage with my daughter for the whole 1st trimester. Spotting mostly. (She by the way was full term and very healthy) Then I had a miscarriage with my next.. it progressed just like a period and started having clots at 6 1/2 weeks. And with this pregnancy I had a yeast infection that made me bleed once. There's all sorts of reasons why we can bleed. And there's not much they can do for you, but to assure you that everything is okay by ultrasound. Just try and take it easy, and put your feet up. When I had my hemorrage bedrest did help somewhat.

We went to the emergency room last night. They did some bloodwork and an ultrasound, which my husband was not allowed to go to and I could not watch. They said the baby looks fine! My hormone levels are over 80,000 (which they said was good) and the heartbeat was fine and baby measured about 7 weeks. It is crazy that there could be that much blood and all be okay! The doctor said maybe it was "implantation bleeding". I have heard of this before, but I assumed it was some light spotting. The doctor said the embryo really burrows into the uterus, so it is possible to hit an artery, so there could be some heavy bleeding.

Thank you to those who gave such encouraging responses! This website is so much help!

I'm late to this thread, but I wanted to share that I had a major bleed at around 10 weeks and here I am at 35 weeks with two healthy babies still growing away.
In my case, I felt this gush of fluid and completely freaked out when I realized it was blood. I was positive I had lost the babies. My OB reassured me over the phone and had me lay down. It was a Sunday and the bleeding stopped quickly so they told me to just come in the next day. Then I woke up in the middle of the night in a pool of blood and went to the ER positive that something was very wrong because of the volume. The ER doctor was a jerk and actually told me that I was obviously losing my babies, but the ultrasound showed two little hearts still bleeding away and a blood clot that was the source of the bleed.
