Hi, I am 11 wks 4 days pg with twins. On Tuesday morning I started bleeding, it was mostly brown with a little pink. I called my ob right away, but because of a snowstorm she wasn't in the office that day. I was able to go in the next day for an u/s, which showed two very healthy looking babies wiggling and kicking around. The u/s made me feel much better, except that I have continued to have light spotting and once in a while some moderate cramping. I have an appointment with a peri on Monday for a nuchal fold scan, so we will probably find out more then, but I am hoping to hear from others who have been through this and gone on to have healthy pregnancies. Thank you so much. Sarah

Hi Sarah, Congrats and welcome to TS. I want to let you know that I went through the exact same thing at around the same time as you. I had bleeding for about 2 days and spotting for about a week and a half, mostly brown blood. When I went to the ER, they couldn't find where the bleeding came from (no subchorionic bleed, cervix is high and closed, babies doing well). I went in for my NT scan the following week and they could'nt find anything wrong as well. They say this is pretty common in pregnancy especially with twins. The ER doctor's guess is the placentas rubbing against each other, or the placenta/s trying to implant in the uterus. Good luck and wishing you a healthy pregnancy!
most of the spotting may be caused from your uterus stretching. your uterus will just about double in size every month compared to a gradual growth from one baby. i am glad to hear that your babies are doing well and just take it easy. and congratulations!! on your twins! i haven't spotted at all but i have had some really hurtful cramps that have made me double over. and every time i sneeze i am beside myself with pain but i know that everything will be fine if i just relax and drink plenty of water. the more water you drink (surprisingly) the fewer cramps you get (for some people). not everyone is the same. lots of love! meshell
Hi there, This is my first pregnancy, and I had bright red spotting at 11.5 weeks and about 13 weeks. Both times it lasted about 2-3 days, only when I wiped. It scared us very badly, but everythin was fine! I also had a decent amount of cramping during those weeks also, which I think is just the uterus stretching...esp with twins and first pregnancy. Don't worry too much and keep us posted! Jennifer
This is my 3rd pregnancy. I didn't spot at all with the first 2. THis on though I have spotted periodically through the whole thing. My dr did u/s and checks. Both babies look great. They told me sometimes with twins it happens and there is not any problems. I almost passed out the first time cause I got so worried.
This is my second pregnancy and I had three episodes of bleeding. The first two were in the first trimester and were lighter which I attributed to implantation. The third time was at 16 weeks and was really heavy. I was sure that I had lost them. Went in for ultrasound and they were perfectly fine! They couldnt find an explanation for it either...
Wow--thank you all so much for your replies. I have been so worried, and I feel so much better after reading about what you have been through. It is so scary--I really appreciate your support! Sarah
I also had the bleeding/spotting. I freaked out and called my midwife because I had no bleeding with my prior pregnancy and she said think of each pregnancy as a recipe...you can use the same ingredients every time, but the cake doesn't always turn out the same. You'll be fine Congrats on the babies-to-be!
I had spotting around my 12th week this pregnancy (this is my 3rd - but first with twins) I never spotted with my other 2 kids. Your symptoms sound similar to what I had. I had a ultrasound done and they saw everything was fine. The ob explained that at that point in the pregnancy the placenta attaches to the uterus. Mine happened to attach close to the cervix therefore the blood associated with the attachment could leak out. Alot of times bleeding occurs but never leaks and just gets absorbed. I am now at 31 weeks and everything looks good with my girls. Good luck! ALex
I had bleeding early on (earlier than 12 weeks) in both of my pregnancies. In Wesley's it was a very scary event. I didn't spot. It was Open Up the Wellspring and sent me from work to the ER with a coat tied around me. It's pretty common and usually nothing to worry about (though always check with the doc just to be sure). Glad you were able to see your guys on u/s and know they're okay.
I had the same thing at around the same time...freaked me out entirely as i was sure i was losing them...i couldnt' even figure out if i was feeling cramping or just imagining it. As other posters say; it's very common. But definitely check w/your doc when it happens; mine said that unless it turned red i shouldn't need to worry. Scary - but what a relief to see them moving around, no? Good luck.
Hi!! If it makes you feel better I bled from about 6 weeks to 12 weeks. Somestimes brown, sometimes bright red. I was very scared and upset but the doctor explained that the babies were "Making room" for each other. At 18 weeks I had heavy bleeding with clots. (Thought for sure I was losing them). It turned out I had placenta previa. I was on bedrest for a a month and then came off of it. I carried my guys to 37 weeks!!! So...although bleeding is very scary...it isn't always a bad thing!!!
HI, I had bleeding in week 8 and week 9 (minimal) -- but everything was fine. I went on to carry my boys 37.5 weeks. Definitely listen to your dr, but I know that it was incosenquential for me. Good luck Teri D
This is my third pregnancy and I had spotting with all of them. I had never had it this late in pregnancy so it scared me more this time. It happened around 14 weeks and so I went in to have a sonogram and I was pretty used to that. Still worried though and it was then that I found out I was having twins! I continued to bleed for five or six days and I was scared to death they were going to put me on bed rest. I didn't see how I was going to do it with my other two. My doctor felt it was pretty normal with twins also and so I just had to take it easy. I haven't had any problems since. I wish you well with your pregnancy. I think you will find it is an entire different story now that you are carring twins. I know I have.
Spotted here too. It was about 12 weeks, but the babies were healthy! They're now healthy 3 1/2 month olds!
I di the same thing at the same time!!! they told me it was a small subchorionic hemmorrage - it was so scary for me but the doctor didn't act like it was that uncommon with twin pregnancies and just told me not to lift anything and not to stand for morethan 2hours at a time - it was a couple of weeksbefore the bleeding stopped but it finally did and my babies will be 3 weeks old on Wednesday! they are perfect and healthy!! CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BABIES AND BEST WISHES FOR A GREAT PREGNANCY!!
spotted with both my pregnancies at exactly 7 weeks, everything turned out fine with my son and looks good with the twins (23 weeks tomorrow). dr said it is pretty normal. let us know how your appt goes.
