    Sorry in advance for TMI.

I am starting to freak out. I am 7w3d pregnant with twins conceived via IVF. I had not had any bleeding at all until my first transvaginal u/s last Thursday. The twins had beautiful strong heartbeats (above average), measured well, and were positioned well. My RE released me from his care, told me to bring the babies back in 9 months, everything looked perfect.

The next morning (Friday), I had brown and rusty colored spotting. I called my doctor and his nurse said that they were confident everything was just fine and believe I had a "friable" cervix (aka fragile, engorged with blood, prone to bleeding) and my ultrasound had roughed it up. She told me to expect more brown bleeding over the next few days. She said that if I felt scared they would be happy to see me (but they made me feel better so I didn't go in), or if I felt concerned over the weekend I could call the RE on call. That night I had very watery, very dark spotting, but nothing scared me.

Then on Saturday I didn't have really any at all. At around 3:30 I had a big gush of bright red blood that got all over my pants. It was not accompanied by any cramping and there were no clots. It felt like I was wetting my pants but there was a lot of it and it was bright red. I called the RE on call and after getting all of the details, he also said he believed we were ok. He was willing to see me the next day, Sunday, but told me if the bleeding had stopped, it wouldn't be necesarry unless I was afraid and needed reassurance.

I didn't have really any bleeding on Sunday...a little bit, nothing major.

Then this morning I started bleeding again, dark brown with a little reddish tint and watery with some gummy stuff. I don't need anything besides a liner. In fact a liner has been fine for each day. Of course the day I had the gush of bright blood I wasn't wearing anything so I couldn't really tell how much it was.

I called my RE and asked them to fit me in today for an u/s, because now after 4 days I am really starting to freak out. I'm seeing them in an hour.

Did you bleed in your twin pregnancy? Did any of you have a friable cervix? Does this sound like a miscarriage? Is it possible for the babies to be perfect and then less than 24 hours later start bleeding as in a m/c???

I am just so scared. I can't even think about losing this pregnancy. I feel like I would not survive it.

I think you should call your RE or your OB and have them show you the heartbeats so you don't worry. It is not good to worry so much. I had a small amount of red spotting at 14 weeks that went away after a day or 2. I had placenta previa that has since corrected itself... you could have that, or you could have some type of hematoma(that may be the wrong word) but I have heard of women bleeding alot of red blood that have this harmless condition. Nevertheless, see if someone can get you in for an ultrasound or doppler to hear the heartbeats. I think you are right around the time that you can hear the heartbeats through a doppler without having to so a transvaginal us which could further "disturb" things:) Hang in there and keep s posted

I'm glad you're going in for an u/s, but I just wanted to reassure you that I did bleed from about 8 weeks until almost 12 weeks. Sometimes bright red, sometimes brown. It was scary. What it turned out it was for me is that Baby A had placenta previa. It moved up as the pregnancy progressed and didn't cause any issues, but it did cause that bleeding in the beginning. Keep us posted!

Thank you all so much for your reassurance and support. I just had my ultrasound. Everything looks perfect, in fact they have had tremendous growth since Thursday. One went from 8.3 to 13 mm, and the other went from 8.9 to 13.3 mm. Their heartbeats both increased from the 130s to close to 150. There are no problems with either placenta. They look wonderful.

He told me that my uterus is being invaded (lol) and I have proliferation of blood vessels (which is normal) and little pools/pockets of blood in my uterus (he was able to point one of them out on the u/s picture), and that's causing the bleeding. He said my cervix may be friable but the bleeding now is not due to the cervix. He said you could theoretically ask the question why doesn't everyone have bleeding in early pregnancy. It's all a huge relief and after seeing their beautiful growth over just 4 days I am not feeling worried anymore. If I continue to have bleeding we will know what it is from.

They look gorgeous. I saw their heatbeats easily, and the one that was hiding the other day isn't hiding anymore. They are taking shape...they didn't look like blobs. I feel so blessed!

YAY :silly: SO glad everything is fine!

I just wanted to add for future readers that I had cervical bleeding right around 7 weeks after my IVF twins too and it was fine. Remember that with IVF your uterus lining is often even thicker than a spontaneous conception and as they burrow in it can cause spotting oof and on.

Glad to hear everything is fine. I bled SOOO much in the beginning I thought my RE was so annoyed with me for how much I called and came in for sono's. They said they thought at first it was my cervix but we never found out exactly why but he said its just so common with multiples.

    Congrats!

I had this type of bleeding during my pregnancy. I had a trans. u/s and then that's when the bleeding started. I would gush on and off after that for several weeks, it was terrible for me. I went the the ER on several occasions and they could never tell me why or find anything wrong. Once I got into my second trimester it finally quit, but I was a nervous wreck everytime it happened.

Thank you all so much! I really appreciate it!

MsTasha, you're right, I didn't even think of that. My lining was all the way up to 14mm at the time of embryo transfer.

    I am so happy!

    Hi!
I just wanted to say I too had IVF and am currently 12 weeks, 2 days so I totally understand your fear and frustrations.

I started bleeding around week 6 and was told there was a tear under the placenta...I found out later that it's just a subchorionic bleed BETWEEN the placentas and it's nothing to worry about...however I'm not allowed to do any exercise or anything - getting frusttrated on that part.

At any rate, I will go about a week with nothing and then get a gush of red blood followed by mucousy brown stuff for about a week - it's been on and off like this since it started! I know it's hard not to freak out but it's easier if you just think things through rationally. My doctor told me to follow my instincts - if you aren't cramping and you are feeling okay then that's a good sign. in my case, I have learned to embrace my morning sickness b/c it reassures me in some wierd way.

    Good luck!

Great news! I had early bleeding at THE exact same time you did! I went in too, against my drs reassurance, thats when we found out there were two in there!!! Seems to be very common in multiples!! Good luck on your new adventure! IT really is an amazing ride!! :give_rose:
