When can I put blankets on my babies when they sleep? They move around a lot in the crib and I’m still concerned about suffocation. Thanks

We use sleep sacks. They are the best! Just like a blanket only they wear them and get zipped up in them so no danger of them getting over their faces. Got ours at BRU. They do have them online as well. You may already use these and just wanted to switch to blankets but IMO they are still too young for a blanket.

All of my babies have had blankets on them since birth. The babies have a crib size flannel blankets and crochet blankets covering them. I don't pull it up over their faces and I "short-sheet" the flannel so they aren't sliding down, since the mattress are on an incline.

I have had blankets on my girls since birth, also. I would lay the blankets across the bed and tuck them under the matress. It would keep them in place pretty good until they begin to wiggle alot. Now, I have blankets in the crib, but they never stay on them.

I put blankets on my babies too. We use light fleece blankets and I tuck them under the sleep positioners and they stay in place really well.

    NO!!!!

I have babies that I could put blankets on and not worry, and I have one of the twins that consistently gets it wrapped around her head, so I don't give her one! Sleep sacks seem like a good solution or blanket sleepers with a onesie underneath, if it's really cold! [IMG]

I live in MI, and it gets cold here. I just put a onsie and a night gown or footed jammie on the boys, then I take a light blanket and sort of wrap them together around their hips legs. They only wiggle to get next to each other, and this sort of keeps them feeling secure and warm. I think the sleep sacks are a good idea, I just haven't gotten one yet.

During the day, they get cozy blankets. They both love them and they stay super warm. DS likes to rub the satin on the edge. [IMG]

At night, they get onsies, blanket jammies and knit sleepsacks. I still don't feel comfortable letting them have blankets all night long. I need to get heavier/bigger sleepsacks, but they are $20 at BRU. That's so darn expensive!

The babies had blankets since birth but it's those knitted blankets where they can breath through it. Around 7 months old Nicole would always sleep with the blanket over her head. She just loved sleeping that way. Her are some pics of her with the blanket over her head.

Mine are like Laura's Nichole. Both of mine sleep with Afghans (knitted blankets) and they sleep with them over their heads, they love it like that for some reason. My first was the same way and he is 4 now and sleeps great with all his blankies!

We have always used blankets. Our babies suck on them and chew on them to fall asleep. They LOVE their blankets. I used blankets with my first set too. We've never had any problems. You're not bad. You need to do what's best for you. What works for one does not work for another.

i use blankets. i have one that is quite stationary and once asleep, rarely moves. he does well with the sleep saks. But the other is a wiggle wart and stands up and moves all around and would be so POed if he was in a sleep sak! He is usually out from under the blanket by morning too, but I tuck them in and have never had a problem. I just feel like they are comfy cozy with a blanket as am I in my bed [IMG]

Mine use blankets as well- but they are crocheted blankets with some holes in them. My boys like to put them over their heads too! We live in CA but it is chilly right now at night- they wear blanket sleepers (the zippered, flannel, footed things) and have their blankets.

I use blankets, too. Now, they are starting to fidget, so I have started using the sleep sacks. They seem to be working.

I use light fleece blankets or crocheted blankets. They also sleep in fleece footed jammies.

These responses are making me feel so much better about using blankets! We use light, knitted blankets on our boys, and I've been worrying that this could be a problem somehow... We were using sleep sacks at first, but since we sometimes bring a baby into bed with us, I worried that they would be overheating in the fleece sacks.
