Blankets in Cribs

My Lo's are getting over colds. They both had stuffy noses. The only way I could get them to sleep was propped up on breast-feeding pillows. But now, that seems to be the way the like to go to sleep. And my DH will not sleep in a sleep sack, but now I find he likes to have a blanket over him. I'm so worried that they will suffocate in either the pillow or the blanket. During the night they slide off the pillow and end up sleeping on their back's or the stomach's. I got up a bunch of times last night to make sure they were ok. Does anyone else let their LO's sleep on pillows or with blankets?

We didnt use pillows until we converted their cribs to beds. But we did give them small blankets at about 10 months. I have read on here many times that people do it much younger than that.

Our girls have used blankets since day 1...yeah, I know. They cannot sleep without them and I do check on them several times, but I put their blankets over my own face, and can honestly still breath through them.

Oh, and I don't blame DH for not wanting to use a sleep sack...his legs would be rather crammed in there! (I know you meant DS, but it's cute to think of DH in a sleep sack  )

Maybe after they fall asleep you can take the pillows out? Ours each have a stuffed animal and a blankie to sleep with. DD has to have something near her face to fall asleep. After she goes to sleep I usually move the blanket away from her face...I know many people say to wait until later for the blankets and animals, but it has really seemed to help ours go to sleep and stay asleep!

I also have some crocheted blankets - they have holes so no worries about suffocating!

My kids have all used blankets from a fairly young age. Pillows, we waited until around a year.

My girls have used blankets since day 1 and can't sleep without them. Right now, Aurielle sleeps with a very small pillow. It is a tummy time pillow from her tummy time mat. It's rather small and looks like a smaller version of the boppy. They are both at the age where they are perfectly able to move the blanket or pillow off of their faces if need be, but most of the time i find their face snuggled in their blankets. Later in the night/morning they will be no were near it. I think the SIDS risk dramatically drops at the 7-8 month mark, so I think your LOs should be ok.

Mine have also had a blanket since day one, we are just trying the sleep sacks now because they are so active that they don't leave their blanket on and they are cold in the morning. I think maybe you could try a wedge under the crib matress. Perhaps they just like being elevated. We did not start giving a pillow to my oldest son until he was out of the crib. Best of luck

All my kids had blankets from day 1, no suffocation problems here. I honestly think the risk is more in using thick blankets that aren't breathable. I always use cotton or flannel type blankets that are breathable and we haven't had a problem. Both the babies like their blankies (the little square blankets with a head sewn in the middle) up against their faces to fall asleep.

I didn't use pillows with the older ones until I converted the beds to a toddler bed, around 18months or so.

My boys used Boppies around 18 months (used them for colds too) and have used blankets since 4/5 months. It was winter and our house was cold.
