    Hi...

I was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on letting your Babes sleep with blankets. Last week I decided to let them have their baby quilts. Its getting chilly at nights here in Nova Scotia. I used to let the girls nap in my bed (until Emily fell out.... AHHHH) and they napped sooooo well all snuggled up with our blankets. Needless to say after Emily fell out that stopped. We did have a bed rail and pillows all around them, its not like I just left them on the bed.. ;) They weren't napping well at all until I let them have their blankets for naps, I went in and checked on them, and they are fine. So I am letting them have them at night as well. I feel like they can move all over their cribs, if it was over their face they would move it, and believe me if they were trying to get it off and couldn't they would let me know. We have the baby monitor turned up pretty loud and we would wake up. I know I love the comfort of having a blanket, and they love them to. I feel mean making them sleep in their cribs with nothing. I know Doctors are reccomending waiting until 2 before blankets now. (at least thats what I have heard, but not from my Doctor.) I was just wondering what all you other Moms were doing.. I have thought about the sleep sacks, but they are going to be standing up soon in their cribs, and wont that be dangerous if they dont have proper controll of their feet and legs? haha.

    Thanks..
    Tif

Mine are very happy with their sleep sacks. I'd be way too worried about entanglement/suffocation if I let them sleep with blankets, and aside from that, I know they wouldn't sleep as well, because they're so mobile they'd be kicking the blankets off all the time!

As far as leg control goes, I've heard of babies being able to climb out of their cribs while wearing sleep sacks, so I'm guessing it's not an issue. ;)

I don't let my girls sleep with blankets at night, but sometimes I will let them nap with a receiving blanket. They don't keep it on- they use it like a lovey (and chew on the tag). I only do this at nap time when I'm up and can monitor them.

If I remember correctly (its been awhile since I read the many baby books I received while pg), babies should sleep in an environment between 68 and 70 degrees F. We keep the house at 70 all year round. I don't remember where I read this, and maybe I'm making it up to justify why I don't use blankets, but I seem to remember its not good for them if they are too warm. Again, I don't know why I think this so maybe another poster can confirm or refute this info.

But you are the best judge of your kids. My girls used to use a sleep sack, but have decided they HATE them now (darn), so now I put them in fleecy pjs for bed. They are all over the place at night and I doubt that any blanket would stay on them.. it would probably get pushed to the side by the middle of the night. But if you kiddos sleep more soundly with a blanket and they are out of the SIDS danger age range, then you need to make the decision for what is best for them. A friend of mine used a blanket with her DD when she was younger, but she tucked it under the mattress. This was before she was rolling around though, and I haven't asked her if she still uses a blanket (her DD is a month older than my girls).

Sorry this message isn't at all informative.. I'm still working on my first cup of coffee of the morning...

My twins are in sleep sacks just like their older sister was. I kept my older DD in sacks until she was about 18-20 months. She was able to pull to stand very well in them and it didn't seem to be an issue since she wasn't walking in the crib. I'd be worried about a blanket in with them. I do let them have blankets during the day when I am monitoring though.

Mine use blankets for naps. I nap one in the criba and one on my bed nestled in a "pillow fort" although now I'm a little nervous. I have a great baby monitor that I always have on. I believe I've heard them blinking on that thing. So if I hear any ruffling or grunting I sprint up the stairs to check on them. I also tuck them into the blankets as much as posiible...almost like a skirt if that makes any sense. I've never found them with a blanket anywhere near their faces before.

Mine use their quilts, and I have no problem with it. I feel like it definitely helps them snuggle down in and sleeeeep.

I just used sleep sacks for the first time last night and we loved them. I would never be able to use blankets. My girls have decided it is more fun to put the blanket on their face and then let go and kick and wiggle and suck for air and then when you pull it off they will smile really big. I guess they are playing picaboo.

  9. We have some afhgans that are crocheted (I have no idea if I spelled that right) It full of little holes so there is no way it would get stuck on their face. I love it and so do they. Brandon and Bentley are always holding on to things and love to hold the blakies while they are sleeping.

Thanks for the replies.. :) I just find without their blankets they dont settle down for naps at all, they just play.. Its like with the blanket they understand its time to sleep...

I know I'm in the minority, but my boys both sleep with a pillow and a blanket. I haven't had any problems. If I try to put them to bed without their blanket they just stand in the crib and cry.

mine have had crocheted blankets since about 6 mos old - at first it was more of a security measure for DD - she kept waking up at night and we gave her a blanket (because she napped with one) and she started sleeping through very well!! now they sorta keep it on themselves (they sleep in blanket sleepers in the winter so while the afghan isn't necessary, they still love to snuggle)
