    hi guys,

i was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. i just noticed that my daughter Gaia has like.... a black spot (as if its under the gum... like inside the gums) where her top back molar will one day be. she's only got 8 teeth so I imagine (chances are) it'll be a while before the molars come in. is this normal? is this normal??? does this happen when the back teeth are coming in?

i would take her to the pediatrician in a time like this, but we just lost our medical benefits at work and so the babies have no insurance at this point..... i would really appreciate any feedback.

has anyone had an experience like this and it was something bad?

Michelle, I don't know - haven't experienced it, but...could it POSSIBLY be a blood blister type thing? If she's chew chew chewing, she could have created a blister. I really don't know  I'm sorry!!

It actually isn't uncommon. It is a blood blister above the growing molar.

a blister INSIDE the gum???? keep in mind she's swinging her arms for me to stop poking around her mouth... but her gums don't look swollen from what i can tell.. it just looks like something black inside her top gums....

My friend's daughter also got a blood blister under her gumline with her molars. I don't know how common it is, since that was the first time I had heard of it. Her molar didn't erupt for over a month after that, just so you know!

My had their front 4 top & bottom teeth when their molars started coming in. It's actually more common that way than to get the canine (eye teeth) before the molars (which, actually, my sons ended up doing because their molars took FOREVER to come through).

I'm sure she's working on those teeth, poor thing!

It actually makes more sense to me inside the gum. Because the tooth is under there and it's hard. So, the rubbing will probably happen under and over.

Sorry, I don't have another theory! Sounds like others have actual experience with this - so hopefully it's nothing to worry about!

I don't know about the gum thing, but I did want to let you know that Florida offers health care to all children. Try googling Florida Healthy Kid Care and see what you find. You have to fill out some papers, etc... but the idea is to make sure all children in the state have access to healthcare. I think there is a waiting list for some of the programs so it is good to start now. Also, they do offer this to EVERY child, so even if one or both parents are working they can still qualify.

Sounds pretty normal to me. I remember the boys gums looking horrible before their molars came through.

I second this! My babysitter's Medicaid is almost up and I've recommended that she look into Healthy Kids. It's very reasonably priced too.

One of my sons has 2 spots of this. I called the dentist and she thought it was a blood blister with the tooth being right there. Then I showed the pedi at his 9 mo appt and the pedi also agreed that the tooth was right there and wanting to poke through. So once the tooth comes in, it should be fine. My son has had this for 4-5 weeks now.
