L&M only have their 2 bottom teeth and have had them for probably a month or so. I noticed this weekend that they both have black marks on their teeth. I "brush" them everynight w/ the orajel tooth and gum cleanser. Do you think it could be the iron in their formula. They are on Enfamil Lipil w/ iron

You should definately make a call to their Pedi and ask. My boys had teeth very early and their two front top teeth grew in discolored (yellow). He recommended taking them to a Pedi dentist at 10m and they said because they came in so early the dentene (sp?) did not cover the entire tooth and they put a varnish on them. They just went back last week for a checkup and the dentist said their teeth look great. Black spots I have read are signs of decay but don't quote me....do you put them to bed with a milk bottle? I brush my little ones (16 teeth since 12m) every night and I try to remember after breakfast. Make that call to ease your mind, some Pedi dentist do not see babies before 2, you may have to get a note from the Pedi or tell the dentist you were told to contact a dentist because of black spots on their teeth, otherwise they may tell you to call back. GL!

No, they don't go to bed w/ a bottle. It isn't spots really. It is more like lines...

OK, so I wrote this exact post on another site last week. Both of my twins have black on their teeth. There are black spots on the back of their teeth too. I was completely distraught over the whole thing. I never put them to bed with a bottle. I took them to the ped, who never saw anything like that before. Then I took them to a dentist. She said that it was a skin/film type thing that will come off with polishing. She said there was no sign of tooth decay. I didn’t get them polished yet since the teeth are not in all the way. She also said that all the teeth will probably come in that way. I am relieved, but not totally convinced – until they get their teeth polished.

Please tell me what your dentist says about their teeth. I am anxious to know if they say the same thing.

Do you give them liquid vitamins? I know that vitamins can discolor their teeth.

Please post when you see the pedi. My Iris is also taking long term antibiotics and will be starting Zyrtec so I would appreciate knowing if they cause teeth problems.
