My boys will be 9 mos. old at the end of the week and Colby has started biting when he doesn't get his way. he crawled across the room and bit the nanny the other day when she was playing with Kellen. He bit me this morning trying to grab the camera from my hand (he likes remotes, cameras, etc). Then he bit kellen today to get his toy away from him. I know kids bite but I'm a little shocked it has started so early. Is there ANYTHING I can do to nip this behavior in the bud?

    TIA

Omg that seems so young to deal with that. My girls don't even have teeth yet. I hope someone gives you some good advice. My girls love to play with anything that they are not supposed to have, but it is probably our fault because we will usually give them anything if it is what they want, but then we pay for it when we have to take it away. My oldest dd was a biter and we tried biting her back & timeouts and spanking and none of it worked and she finally grew out of it.

I had figured that if biting started, I'd try biting back but I never thought it'd start so young! UGH! I hope someone knows what to do!

I sure hope one of these super moma's has an answer, cause my girls are doing the same thing!! OUCH, they keep biting me in the shoulder when I am cudling them! I know they arent trying to hurt me of course, just need things to chew on!!
I would love to find a way to discourage this behavior.....

One of mine does the same thing! She bites my shoulder when I'm holding her. I just try to startle her by pushing her head away from my shoulder and say "NO BITING!" I've done this about 3 times now and she's starting to look at me afterwards like she understands me. Good luck!

I'm working on this too. DS likes to bite FLESH when he's teething. He'll bite my hands when I'm cleaning him up after a meal, my neck and shoulder when I'm carrying him, and my cheek and lips when he gives kisses.

For everything except the kiss-bites, I tell him, "Don't bite," and put him on the floor and ignore him for just a minute. I don't want to discourage kisses, though, so I try to just be really vigilant - I let him kiss, and then pull away when he's thinking about biting and tell him, "Ooohh, SWEET kisses!"

I can tell it's going to take a LOOONG time for this one to sink in, though. Usually when I tell him not to bite he just gives me a big goofy grin.
