My DS will be 2 in Nov. and I am starting to think about his b-day. He doesn't talk much and doesn't really have a favorite cartoon/animal etc. Last year we did a baseball theme because he loves balls. I am wondering that since he doesn't talk much, should I pick out a couple themes and let him point to what he wants? Any ideas for themes?

    Thanks so much!

I would wait until it gets closer because he may like something totally different if you wait until October to ask. He may also be a motor mouth by that time too!

Yes, you could wait. Or, if you are an early planner, just pick something you think he likes and go with it. He's two, he just wants to eat cake and play (and in my kids' instance...blow out candles).

Some kids don't have strong preferences at 2. T&T were talking well but they don't watch much TV and I was pretty sure they'd get excited about most anything so long as the attention was on them. So, I picked and they were perfectly thrilled with the frog theme. Their 3rd birthday is right around the corner and they still don't have a favorite thing or character. So, once again, I'll probably just pick something I know they'll both like rather than bringing them to a party store and dealing with the crying fits because they love and want everything they see. If it's important to you that he pick, I'd keep it VERY simple and offer two or three images representing the ideas (invitations, perhaps) to choose between rather than overwhelming him with options.

Mine turned 2 in May and the thought of asking them what theme they preferred never crossed my mind! ;)
They are delayed in speech and would have never told me which they wanted. I just chose Elmo because they both love him. And quite frankly, I'm not sure they noticed or cared what decor was on the plates and cups....it was more for the guests in our case.
I think when they are old enough to really express a preference, then it is cool to ask their input.
