Get ready for the million questions about birthday parties! I only have one more up my sleeve for today... Anyways..

We have a huge list of over 120 people invited to the boys' first birthday party-which will be taking place-somehow-at my house. I was wondering who have done cupcake cakes and those who have not. I went to Walmart and it was $20 for a 24 cupcake cake, or $30 for a 36 cupcake tower. Not a bad deal. Then I bought some cupcakes to see how they tasted-I hated them(I'm picky!). I know I can't be picky in this sense-but for me-I want the food to be GOOD. And I am all about the cake! :p

I haven't checked to see if the local supermarkets do cupcake cakes yet. I'm thinking for that size of a party-it might be the way to go-that way we won't spend hours cutting a cake. But I also don't think I will be able to make all those cupcakes. Thoughts? Ideas? Oh-I would also do the Hoodsie Ice Cream Cups too. A bit easier!

I love the Costco cakes and cupcakes. They taste yummy and they are very reasonable. We got a sheet cake and had it split and did 1/2 for Derek and 1/2 for Tyler.

ETA: picture View attachment 4252 It came out pretty good. I wanted a different brighter color green, but I couldnt get them to re-do it in time.

Thanks for the picture! That's a good idea! We were there yesterday looking around(and spending a lot of money!). I do like their cakes, so they are another option! Thank you!

we got our Baptism party cake from Costco and it tasted really good but the choice of designs was limited. I like the idea of cupcakes and may do this for yours but we are having like 75 people so that's a lot of work. Jack is also allergic to eggs and milk so the bakeries I already called won't do anything with kids who have allergies....UGH!!

Wow! That stinks about the bakery not helping you out. I can see how they probably couldn't in one sense-cross contamination, etc. Could you just bake one for Jack?

As for the designs-you are right about the limited choices. I have to do some shopping!

I'm going to call a few other places but will probably make it myself!

hmmm, a cake is good if you have alot of people. But personally I think cup cakes are just plain more fun! :D

good luck with the planning, I'm sure in a few months I will be asking those same questions :D

hmm if its for that many people i would consider using a place that does wedding cakes! did you have a yummy one? you already know how good it taste and you can custom design it for thier bday:) mine was a huge cake that feed easily 100 people! it was 120.00 so something along that line? OR you can do the cupcakes in the center and a sheet cake to cut up? thats alot of guest big party:) our wedding was smaller  have fun planning! ^_^

If you didn't like the Wal Mart cupcakes, you probably won't like the local grocery store cupcakes. The icing at all of those places is just gross.
If you can, spend a little on a decent bakery and get the good buttercream! That is, if you are as into the cake/cupcake as I am :p
I do think the cupcake idea sounds so cute!
What about cute cupcakes for all of the kids and a nice sheet cake for the adults, all in the same color/theme?

We did the cupcake cake this past year for their third birthday and it was so easy and nice. We got it from our local grocery store (Giant). It tasted pretty good. It makes life easier for the kids and they were able to choose between choc and vanilla cake. We also did a regular cake for our family celebration. Can you do a cupcake cake for the kids and Costco cakes for the adults? You could decorate one for each child so they both have their own cake??

I did cupcakes for the girls' 1st birthday (the girls had their own cakes, everyone else had cupcakes). In retrospect I would just do a big sheet cake for everyone. I had SOOOO many cupcakes left over and I think people would have ate the cake if I had one. Rachel- adorable cake!
