So, as my husband posted - we had the girls on the 30th of April, 2007 at 1001 and 1058 respectively.

SHORT VERSION: 35 weeks 4 days. Vaginal delivery - both head down, needed forceps for the second baby. Maya Joan was born at 1001, 5 pounds, 1.9 ounces; Naomi Victoria was born at 1058, 5 pounds, 9.6 ounces. Both are great; spent time in the NICU just for transition, and have been on the postpartum floor rooming in since that evening. (picture link at bottom of page)

    LONG VERSION:

My pregnancy was relatively boring as far as twin pregnancies go except for two issues: One, gallbladder removal at 16 weeks preganant and then preterm labor at 32 and 5/7. After the preterm labor, I was placed on bedrest and nifidipene until 34 weeks. After 34 weeks, my OB said that the risks outweighed the benefits of the meds and we would just see what would happen. I went back to him a week later, still having Braxton-Hicks, and my cervix had thinned out from 2-3, 50% effaced while on the meds to 3 cm and 100% effaced off the meds (this was at 35 weeks and 1 day). He and I discussed that I was well on my way to having these kids and he would not stop labor, so he stripped my membranes (not very much fun if you've never had that done) and expected me to go into labor that night or Sat. Well, Sat came and went, and so did Sunday during the day; but that evening I started going to the bathroom every 15 minutes or so - I figured a head must have moved. Went to bed and then after one of the bathroom trips, got back into bed, felt a "weird" pain/pop sensation that went away as quick as it came, and then when I rolled over -- out gushed fluid. I got up -- it was clear and definitely not urine; and it kept coming. I woke up my husband and he says "do I have time for a shower" -- "sure, no different contractions yet". But, by the time he was done with his shower less than 15 minutes later, I was walking around the house in pain. Thankfully at 0230 in the morning, there's not much traffic. We ended up at the hospital about an hour after my water broke -- I was still 3 cm, 100%, but boy o boy, those contractions were not something to be messed with - plus it was back labor, so it wasn't much fun. Anyway, I was the only one on the floor at the time - the doc came and talked to me (different than my normal doc) and he said I could have an epidural whenever I wanted -- to which I answered "now". Got the epidural - worked wonders. My husband said my mood went immediately from bad to good. Then, we sat - I read, he watched Seinfeld on the DVD. By 0700 I was 5cm, 100%, 0 station. My doc came in and said he would check me at nine and then we'd see if we would start pitocin. At nine, I was complete with a +2 station without the pit - my contractions were coming every minute to two minutes. Thankfully I couldn't hardly feel them. We pushed in the room for a bit so I could learn and then moved to the OR. Here, my doc said "oh, five minutes or so, we'll have a baby" -- 45 minutes later out comes Maya. She had her hand up by her head, so it was harder to push her out than expected. She was 5 pounds 1.9 ounces and 46 cm long. I got to give her a kiss just as a contraction started up for the second one -- then they spaced out. They gave me pitocin, I pushed for another almost hour and had hardly moved the second down -- she was still 0 station. So, we decided to do forceps. Two pushes later - out comes Naomi, 5 pounds 9.6 ounces and 48 centimeters long, with a hand up by her head! She was a bit shell shocked, so she had to go to the NICU in a warmer, didn't breathe first as much so they had to help her just with some ventilations with a bag, no CPAP, no intubation. They decided to take Maya there also for transition just to be on the safe side. I needed NO STITCHES! (but I have a good case of 'roids to deal with now). I went back to my labor room, had the epidural wear off and then moved to postpartum. Once set up, I was allowed to go to the NICU and start breastfeeding. It went really well -- the girls are champs. They needed nothing further in the NICU and were moved to postpartum in our room at 1900 that night. Since then, they have been with us -- and we are totally exhausted. Still working on the breastfeeding (no milk yet - only 2 days postpartum) and between that, plus being in the hospital - I think I've probably slept about 4 hours since Sunday night. So, I expect to crash soon! Anyway, off to introduce myself at the first year and breastfeeding boards.

Thanks for all your help and support.
